Heya all... stupid question really I guess but I'm so confused!!

Highlight Below (spoiler-ish)
At the end of the game when the gman freezes time... what the hell happens?!?! I guess gordan and alyx don't die but how the hell do they get outta there? and what about alyx's dad (cant remember name)?? Does Breen actually die? Ahhh confusementation!! lol any reply would be helpful (well i say any reply, "n00b!" etc etc isnt really helpful!!)

Yeah so highlight above unless you haven't finished the game then you might not want to!

Breens fate is unknown.

How Alyx survives the explosion will be revealed in Aftermath, but she does, and is very much alive. Along with Gordon.

I don't think Gman stops time, he probably just alters Gordons perception of time.

We'll find out about the rest of the characters in Aftermath, but Eli survives as well.

ahhh

ahhh so its not really me being stupid its more no-one really knows yet!! Thanks for clearing that one up, it was a typical half life ending to another brilliant half life game!!! hehe I am so getting hl2-aftermath when it comes out:D

Newho cheers

Have you played Half-Life 1? If yes, then you should see that the ending of HL2 actually fits in pretty well with the HL style.

Basically, though, it's not entire clear what happens.

The G-Man appears near the reactor. He might have slowed time down, it might be a result of the explosion, or he might be only slowing Gordon's percetpion.

The G-Man removes Gordon from there and puts him into stasis again. Why Gordon gets out of it so soon (expansion), I have no idea.

Alyx also survives the explosion.

Dr. Breen isn't killed by Gordon, definitely not. He is seen falling down in that bubble. That might kill him, or he might be killed by the explosion. However, he might also survive.

The Citadel is not going to be destroyed just immediately. Gordon damaged it critically, but it won't blow up just yet. I think Aftermath will end with the Citadel blowing up and taking out all of City 17, but that is just a guess.

well actually...

i have got half life generation (in case you don't know that's hl1, blueshift, cs, opposing force) and i didn't really play half life 1 that much (never completed it, but i might go back and play it now!!)... I do however know pretty much exactly what happens so yeah...

Just out of interest, at the end of half life 2, when gman says "I'm not going to give you the illusion of free choice" or words to that affect, is he referring to when he gives you the choice of a job or certain death at the end of hl1?

Yes, he most probably is. After all, in HL1 you do get to choose, in HL2, the G-Man does, well, whatever it is that he wants. Then again, notice how he said "illusion" - I, for one, don't think Gordon had much choice in HL1, either. He could have died, probably, but I think that the G-Man was largely influencing where and what happened.

I think you should definitely go back and play HL1, and actually finish it. It's an excellent game. I have played through it several times, and I enjoyed it all. For one thing, there are many good small details in the game that you have to play twice for. Secondly, there are many awesome battles in certain parts that are nice to replay. Thirdly, the overall fun factor is just too high!

I think gman do something more that just manipulate time

sure this dont sounds coherent but I am talking about the part in the ending where gman appear and everything goes black and he walk trought something that looks like a light door,it looked so matrix style

Hmm... I have a theory

I've got a theory about what happens at the end of HL2... you know earlier in the game when you escape from nova prospekt and the teleporter blows up and dr kleiner says something like "yes, it had tremendous knock-on effects, but that was over a week ago!"... I think the same happens at the end in the citadel as it is the teleporter exploding and just before that, dr breen says "you have know idea what damage you will cause"... I think that at the end time will freeze again like before.. Just an idea though!!

My point is, in concerns to the fate of the good Doctor Breen is- if you're inflicting massive damage to his teleportation device, SOMETHING is going to go wrong. Notice that teleportation is a very complicated and intricate system. Hell, a lone debeaked headcrap manages to nearly KILL Gordon in Dr. Kleiner's lab.

Imagine what those dark energy orbs are doing to the teleportation device as Gordon destroys the energy core of the teleporter. At the very best, Dr. Breen gets stuck in mid-transit, ending at possibly the midpoint Xen. And he doesn't have a hazard suit.

I second that; he was a great bad guy, however I don’t think he will be himself.
I believe that he will turn up as something or someone else, let me explain when he was talking to the combine advisor near the end something was mentioned about a host body, hence I think that he managed to get out however he has somehow changed bodies.

Riiiiiight.

I'm of the opinion that the G-Man doesn't, in fact, put you into stasis. If you actually listen to his speech at the end of HL2 he's really saying "sorry, Mr. Freeman, but your contract has changed. You're being whored out to someone else."

there are an unspeakable amount of theories for the half life series and we will never really truely know the truth until the end (hopefully...)

I higly doubt
considering the style of valve in the hl games maybe we will never know the truth

"That, Winston, you will never know. If we choose to set you free when we have finished with you, and if you live to be 90 years old, you will still not know the answer to that question. As long as you live, it will be an unsolved riddle in your mind."

1984 ftw

I doubt we'll ever get full resolution. Key plot points will be resolved and we'll get a good enough understanding by the end, but our it will never be 100%. That comes with the HL territory and it also keeps the doorway open for later sequels.

Yeah anyone read 1984? If you read it, Half Life 2 sounds a lot like it. Like it could possibly be based off it. Cept in the end where the main character is captured and brainwashed into thinking the Government is good and nothing is ****ed up.

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
:) I can though!

I doubt Valve even knows the truth yet, because they haven't hired a writer to write it out for them yet.

Apart from Marc Laidlaw.
