Just got a joystick....

I can use the mouse pretty well for piloting, but I've never had a joystick.

Anyway, how was it free?

Lol @ background toy. "Scrapped princess"

Tribes: Vengeance!

Oh, and good on you. I too have a joystick, but most of the time I engage in ground combat, so it doesn't see a whole lot of use.

wait a minute.... is that halo in the background?

Very disapointing, to say the least....

I can fly jets with the mouse, but i usually crash out when in a dog fight. I might start using my joystick again. But i'm usually on the ground or in a chopper.

@ Halo: It was free since it was outside walmart still in teh box. I coudn't help but take it home..just so it can sit unused.
@ Scrapped Princess: One of my favorite Animes...I'm trying to collect all of the collector pieces.
@joystick. It feels NICE AS HELL. It was free because my roomates dad had it laying around. Suprised he didn't realize it costs $70 new. O_O The cool part is. It goes completely limp when not touched...but if you touch it *or gear near it..you dont' HAVE to touch it* it senses you...and stiffens up rightly. It's really fun to tip it so the stick is leaning...then put your finger on it lightly..it will bob up and down..funny as hell.

I had some problems at first. When I bound the joystick and everything to BF2...when rolling the jet, it was inverse. Everything was fine, just coudln't roll correclty. Well, how I ended up fixing it, was I had to bind the "Roll Left" to the correct way, then go and bind the "Roll Right" the correct way. Coudln't do it the other way around..had to go left->right. It was weird, that's for sure..but thanks to a trusty clan member from DoD...*he has one too* we got it fixed.

I think I'm in love :)

Uhhhh..

I have the non force feedback version of that joystick.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen, but the handle kinda doesn't sit in teh middle perfectly..it slides around. Oh well, it was free :D
By that do you mean in rotates left and right? Cause that’s the rudder control.

Dude. I paid $70 for that joystick a few years ago, back when I was getting $10 a month allowance.

You're lucky.

Anyway, good stick, mine still works like a charm.

He also told me that when you hit it on the toilet, it'll go CRAZZY!

Ummm... Yeah...

Anyway, how's your flying going with it?

Better..I can dodge alot easier now. Only problem I have so far is setting myself up for gunning people in IGLA/Stingers now. I seem to not be able to slightly turn...then again..I'm still getting used to the whole thing flying :(

I could only fly planes (with a mouse) for the 2 weeks or so i had some extra ram and no lag- now cant- boohoo.

Yeah using mouse and keyboard was easy after some practice...but I'm sure the joystick will be easy to.

using the keyboard only works great for me
its definitely a pain to shake some one off your tail buts it's so good for bombing
do you guys have to turn down the sensitivity of the mouse everytime you get into a jet ?

I have it up to 7..You can't do anything on a low sensitivity. And I play with someone who is godlike at flying with the keyboard. Usually dies...1nce or 2ice a day in the jet...usually ranks in the tops too. He's pretty damn good :(

Sry to res this thread, I also bought a new joystick. Just today

Anyway, what sensitivity and yawn and pitch factor do you folks recommend.
What is yawn factor, and what is pitch factor.

Oh and I have my joystick set up to pull up the nose when I push the joystick back and nose down when I push it forward, is this okay and what most folks use.

Anyway I 'm still getting used to it, but untill now I find precise movement, bombing and stunts easier with mouse and keyboard. But shaking someone off of my tail is a lot easier with the joystick. Plus it's good that I have a lot of buttons at my thumbs disposal and have set the thing to auto accelerate, so do not even have to hold the w key.

it took me a long time to get used to a joystick ..still cant fly the attack chopper all that well. I left everything on default settings, works fine

oh and dont auto-accelerate ..slowing down and speeding up is crucial in dog fights

No No, auto accelerate works fine. See it is set to accelerate auto, but if i want to slow down then i just press s. But now I just do not have to worry that if I accidantly do not keep the w press I slow to much down and can't accelerate fast enough.

Anyway, I've gotten after playing 3 hours pretty used to it, almost as good as with mouse. But I wouldn't switch back to mouse simply because flying with joystick is so much more fun. With the mouse it's just ****ing irritaing and exausting.
But when it comes to heli. I'm like you. the joystock can't beat the keyboard and mouse.

Ditto..I still use mouse/keyboard with the heli. I'm like a druken sailor with the joystick. Still can't shoot guys out of the sky with teh joystick *guns* I can missle them, but if they know what they are doing...I'm screwed. :(

But avoiding getting shot is a lot easier, you do not have to pull that ****ing mouse to the middle over and over and it will never fall over the dge. You just puch your sticvk left or right.
Anywa always remember to still use your A,D keys. I hadn't played this game in a month and forgot about that, couldn't do jack shit with the joystick alone.

But anyway what settings do you play on and do you know what pitch or yawn factor is.

Dont need to use AD..I got that set to my Z axis..*the handle turns left/right in a spinning fassion*

cool, i just found out i have that to.

Does anyone have the problem of getting a beep when too many buttons are pressed? I am always flying the jet and trying to use the gun, but I can't control it when the space bar is pressed in. ANyone know of a way to override this too many buttons thing?
