and

But I have an issue that maybe someone with more experience can help me with.

You see, the bass likes to project itself...past me into the rest of the house. I can leave the room I'm in (7 feet from the woofer) into the adjacent hallway and the bass is absolutely mind-blowing/earshattering. In the room it's much less impressive.
And needless to say my sister is pissed.

So any advice?
EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm using an audigy 2 ZS

Try moving the sub around. Corners of a room are the best and on something hard (not carpet). Bass is not directional and sounds different based on where you are in the room. Just experiment.

Congratulations man! Welcome to the world of window rattling bass goodness of the Z-5500's. ;)

You could tune down the subwoofer in the control center and try moving it around the room to find the best spot for it.

Damn lucky people!
I want some! >_<
Seriously, I'm afraid to turn these things past 1/2 volume.

Anyone that maxes these out is insane. And doesn't have family or neighbors.
I'll rearrange the room today. Unfortunately it was a bedroom before it became my computer room and it's not designed for speaker placement.

There are cabinets in here too, they don't help.

You'd need to get actual sound first though

:( Come fix?

I know what you mean. My friend has some and a 1/4 volume is more than enough.
I can't have any anyway. The bass and vibrations would kill the fish in the room :( Damn i need a house. Essy! Can i be a room mate? :E

Well just moved the sub into the corner of the room...Now I'm worried about my ears.

Thanks for all the help boys :D
*hugs Ren.182*

Like the one guy said, try moving it around a little bit and see what happens.

However, what I think would really help is closing the door and then (if it's warm enough wherever you are) crack the window a little bit. The open window would act as a port, and combined with the closed door, the moving air would be pushed outside instead of down the hall. Bass actually MOVES air. Your ears are hearing/detecting the air pressure changing around you. Bass is much more boomy in an enclosed area when the excess pressure has nowhere to go.

I'm not saying this is going to make a huge difference, but the extra bass SHOULD go out the window instead of down the hallway, while the sound in the room remains relatively the same.

You could also use adjust the EQ in your sound software to produce less deep low bass (which is what travels farthest). Raise the leftmost bar on the EQ a little bit.

I'd try your idea but the window is frozen shut :P

Ah, another question.

What would mounting my center speaker to the ceiling upside down do? Should I just reverse the stand so I can screw it to the ceiling upside up?
I heard unscrewing the wrong screw can make the stands useless.

Lol, mounting your center channel to the ceiling makes no sense at all. You want it firing from in front of you, not above you. In fact, you kind of want all the speakers to be at about the same height... the best is at or near ear level. Often the center channel is a little higher than the surrounds because it will sit on a TV or monitor, etc, and that's ok.. but don't try putting it on the ceiling..

Try the other suggestion I gave ya.. turn down the leftmost slider on your Creative sound console EQ. That will reduce the amount of the lowest bass frequencies being outputted, thus making them travel less far. You won't hear much difference, but the sound won't carry throughout the house as much.

If there's absolutely no place to put the center channel in front of me, especially if I'm planning on getting projector/screen in the near future, the only other place where I could have the center channel in front of me is on the ceiling.

I'll do that.

Put it behind the screen... Cut a hole in the wall... Mount it underneath your desk... or on top of a small table just below the screen. Do something to generally keep it in front of you, firing at you... You can mount it to the ceiling if you want, but I don't think you'll like the way it sounds.. It will be firing straight down while the left and rights fire forward.

Center channels are there for one main reason.. to create a sound stage.. in front of the listener... If you really don't have room for it, personally... I'd get rid of the center channel before I mounted it on the ceiling. Center channels are probably the 1 speaker you can get away without, because the front left and rights will compensate and create a sound stage that at least will sound correct. Of course this is just my advice so good luck with whatever you decide :)

bass is non directional. Just move the Sub some place else in your room until you you're happy with the level of bass.

Heh, I didn't mean right above my head, I meant in front of me, about 10 feet, at a 25-30 degree angle from my head. This is pretty much where I have it now, except where it is now it would be blocked by the screen.
