just one quick question for concerning a lightning bolt!

i made all the beam part but i can find a suitable sprite that resemles a lightning bolt, they are mostly straight beams! the noise option is just crap! anyone know where i can find a good old eletrical bolt?
 
There is a point_tesla entity that sounds promising. I thought about using it once, but never got around to it, so I have no idea if it works or not.
 
I have to say in regards to this I have been able to make a convincing lightning bolt just using env_beam and noise, it looked crap at first but you just have to tweak, lemme see if Ive got a screenshot of it in my map, yeah I do, I've uploaded it.

So as you can see lightning is perfectly possible using the entity env_beam, and it looks nice in game to (obviosuly the screen doesnt convey the animation which is sufficiently lightningy)

P.S. ignore the rest of the stuff on the screen, it's WIP and that's an angle you never actually see when you're in game, not that you actually care, hrmm, yeah just ignore this.

what sprite did you use?
 
well the point_tesla is for lightning, but i can't semm to specify a target for it!? are there any point_target entitys or something i can use?
 
the lightning effect uses ''lgtning.vmt''

the big central beam uses ''physbeam.vmt''

Although to be honest I didn't see a huge difference, elsewhere in the map ive used other lightning type entities that use the default laserbeam.vmt and they look practically identical, only differing due to colour and difference in width, noise amount and such,
