I just want to make a comment, id like to see if anyone else agree's that saw CS:Source at there local cyber cafe.

Did anyone notice the shadows of the players. They looked aweful on the machines I watched. They were just large circles that jumped around unrealistically as the light direction changed. It completely stood out and looked terrible.

Not a flame, just asking if any others noticed, maybe it was the machines i watched it played on.

**EDIT: I just saw some screen shots that do not have this problem, it must have been the setup on the PC's i was watching.

where they using DX9 cards at teh cafe? do you have any idea on the system specs?

They were newer dell dimension pc's so im assuming they were ati 9700's or 9800, maybe 9600xt. I really dont know, none of the dweebs playing had any clue when I asked. But I did notice a nice shine off the bricks in one of the scenes that looked very similar to a DX 9 feature.

They had blob shadows on instead of realistic shadows. The source engine can use realistic shadows, but they can be disabled to save preformance.

the machine I played on had shadows but they were fuzzy.
Didn't take note of whether it was static or followed the light source.

They wont follow the light source, its a predifined length and direction, sources lighting isnt like that, but the shaddows do look nice for what they are.

Yea all shadows in one map go in one direction.

The shadows are very nice :)

Had a chance to play CS:S today at my local Internet Cafe.

Pity the machines only had Geforce4 MX's in them. On 800x600, all details on high, except for reflective water (which isn't even in dust so.. meh) and no AA or AF it ran at about 29-60fps which was quite playable.

The addition of physics/ragdoll/and 3D-skyboxes made a big difference in the overall feeling of the game. .. FUN FUN FUN!

Found it hard to take screenshots. Only way I could take one was to go through the Submit Bug report and Click on 'Take screenshot' there. But they are low quality jpg's. Ahh well.. Better than nothing.

Btw, I submitted like 6 bug reports in the hour I played it! YAY. None of them too serious. Just textures ****ing up and clipping problems.

Didn't seem to be able to hurt anyone with a barrel thought. Which i wrote a complaint about. I HE grenaded a barrel into someones face, and it just passed through the player model. which sucks IMO. Hopefully that'll change.

Anyways
Here's the picture I took!

maybe if u turned on water it turns into DE_mudpool :)

could u shoot trough the barrels btw? or did they protect u?

Hey Ozi

how did you get it to show that info at the bottom right corner, the FPS etc ?

Cheers

and the console is disbled by default, so to enable it just go to keyboard options then advanced and enable console.

Nah, not quite up to DooM 3 standards, but at least Source can render more than just a dark corridor at a time on current hardware!

I must admit, when I saw the CS:Source video's I didn't gasp or go "Wow" because at the end of the day, it's just a prettier version of CS. I'd prefer to see more of the physics in action though, and how they can be used to affect game play.

The visual's aren't *that* stunning to be honest, but then again all I've seen is a few rather bad quality movies. Maybe you have to see it in action?
