For those of you who aren't familiar with Karl Rove he is pretty much Bush's brain, officially his closest advisor. In July 2003 someone in the white house leaked the name of a undercover CIA operative, Valerie Plame, to discredit her husband who refuted the administration's claims about Saddam. Over the weekend Rove's lawyer admitted that Rove was in the notes as a source for Cooper, one of the reporters that broke the story containing the agent's name. For those that aren't familiar with US law releasing the name of an active undercover CIA agent is not only highly illegal but it is also treason, making Rove a traitor.

The e- mails surrendered by Time Inc., which are largely between Cooper and his editors, show that one of Cooper's sources was White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, according to two lawyers who asked not to be identified because they are representing witnesses sympathetic to the White House. Cooper and a Time spokeswoman declined to comment. But in an interview with NEWSWEEK, Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, confirmed that Rove had been interviewed by Cooper for the article.

Sources in congress are saying that Rove will be charged within a week but nobody has been able to confirm this yet. So are liberals still the traitors? I can't wait for a right winger on here to come in and defend the actions of Rove, saying treason is okay if you are a republican.

well this should be very interesting indeed ...I wonder if the republicans in our little group who overwhelmingly said they believe capital punishment is appropriate for treason will follow through and call for Rove's execution

I wouldn't hold my breath. After all, its just politics so hypocracy on the Republican side is expected.

heh I agree ...actually I wouldnt be too surprised if this thread is ignored all together by the right-wingers in our group

I seriously doubt that anything will happen to that prick.

Time for some good ol' American justice.

Its eerily quiet in this thread... muahahahaha.... The truth shall set us all free.....

It will be ignored until this hits the main stream media and Rush finds a way to spin this. Then you will hear it repeated here over and over again.

i never really cared much for Rove or knew much about him, doesn;t bother me if he gets the axe, especially if all this is true, in which case he and the others involved should all be tried.. since this is clearly a problem that needs to be resolved... we can only hope the justice system actually still works well enough to do anything

maybe bush will get someone better to fill his spot..

oh, and i'm a republican... semi-conservative i guess... good enough

I don't know much about the leaked CIA identity situation but all it says was that Rove was a source for the article written. Not that he was the source that actually leaked agents identity.

anyone else think the reporters involved are pansies? they're trying to dance around and get only home arrest... why should they be any different from a normal person and not have to go to jail... I know if I started leaking stuff and got found out I'd be going to jail, simple as that... f*cking media personalities think they're more important than the rest of us...

The problem is that Rove's name appeared in the notes of Time magazine's Cooper as the source for the information and the lawyer admitted they met just a few days before the article was written.

maybe bush will get someone better to fill his spot..
If it turns out Bush wasn't involved in this.

I highly doubt it, for all the stupid mistake he has made I don;t think he's dumb

I do too, I think Rove will take the blame and Bush will walk free as there wont be enough evidance to link him. However, hew will suffer a huge political loss. I mean, come on, Bush's closest political advisor does this and Bush didn't know anything about it? I think most Americans wont buy that.

Most Americans won`t give a shit.

Lawyer Says Rove Talked to Reporter, Did Not Leak Name
Sat Jul 02 2005 21:05:04 ET

Karl Rove, President Bush's chief political adviser, spoke with TIME mag's Matthew Cooper during a critical week in July 2003 when Cooper was reporting on a public critic of the Bush administration who was also the husband of a CIA operative.

But Rove did not leak the name of the CIA op Plame, Rove's lawyer said again Saturday night.

Robert Luskin said Rove never identified Plame to Cooper in those conversations.

"Karl did nothing wrong. Karl didn't disclose Valerie Plame's identity to Mr. Cooper or anybody else,' Luskin said to the WASHINGTON POST. Luskin said the question remains unanswered: ``Who outed this woman? ... It wasn't Karl.'

NBC's Lawrence O'Donnell claimed this weekend, 'Rove Blew CIA Agent's Cover'.

It's looking like it's the liberal smear machine revving up. Bear in mind- if he is found to be actually the one who did, he should face the charges. But I'm not very inclined to wholly take the word of "NBC's Lawrence O'Donnell"

I don't know man, it is Lawrence O'Donnel. if you can't trust him, who can you trust.

Far left raving lunatic.

"I am watching Scarborough Country right now and Lawrence O’Donnell has just lost it. He has been yelling at John O’Neill for about 12 minutes and called him a liar at least a couple dozen times during that same time period. He has continued to shout John O’Neill down after returning from commercial and now just called him a creepy liar. He has not let O’Neill get a word in edgewise and has not answered any charges beyond calling them lies. I can’t wait to get the trascript of this one. The Left is in total meltdown. I have never seen them this hysterical. Smells like raving desperation to me. If anyone else saw this I would love your comments."

HAHA that was Lawrence O'Donnell?! I heard the tape of that from the Laura Ingraham show, I was just like, man this guy is a ****ing LUNATIC.

Karl Rove is EVIL,however that was what made him such a great character in a recent episode of American Dad...

I think it showed the true nature of the powers behind Bush, all evil sorcereror/Emperor Palpatine..

"Unholy,you say?"

oh noes!!11 semi right wing guy(me) in agreement with "hippie liberals"../end world

BTW the "hippie liberal" thing was a joke before anyone gets their panties in a bunch..

The issue is not O'Donnell; Newsweek is about to report on this story and Rove's lawyer admitted Rove met with Cooper shortly before the story was written.

Lawyer Says Rove Talked to Reporter, Did Not Leak Name
The lawyer said Rove didn't 'knowingly' leak the name; as far as I know they never gave a flat out denial:

http://slate.msn.com/id/2122065/

According to Luskin, Rove "never knowingly disclosed classified information" and "did not tell any reporter that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA."

That means he didn't know Plame worked for the CIA but might have gave the name out. 2 reporters are supposed to testify today or go to jail; we'll get more information if they talk.

I hope Miller goes to jail if she won;t testify, none of this "house arrest" crap, put her in an uncomfortable position and squeeze

As one of the Republicans in our little group, lete me be the first to say that if Karl Rove is tried and convicted of treason, then he should be executed as a traitor live on national tv. No hypocrisy here from me.

i wish more executiuons were televised live...:(

Yeah, I'd say that theres some definate jumping to conclusions going on here, but if he is in fact a traitor he should die a traitors death.

QFE

Show where he was convicted. Oh you cant? Then shut the **** up, whether he's guilty or not, he's innocent until proven. You have no basis to say what you just did.

I think Timothy McVeigh's was supposed to be but a judge overturned it or something.

No limit, i'm sorry but you're stupid. Do you honestly think that any republican or conservative here would root for rove if he was guilty? right now youve got him all figured out havent you. "KARL ROVE IS A TRAITOR". Yeah, you figured it all out didnt you.

Earlier, Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper, in an about-face, told Hogan that he would cooperate with a federal prosecutor's investigation into the leak of the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame. He said he would do so now because his source gave him specific authority to do so.

"Last night I hugged my son goodbye and told him it might be a long time before I see him again," Cooper said as he took the podium to address the court.

"I went to bed ready to accept the sanctions" for not testifying, Cooper said. But he told the judge that not long before his early afternoon appearance, he had received "in somewhat dramatic fashion" a direct personal communication from his source freeing him from his commitment to keep the source's identity secret.

As for Miller, unless she decides to talk, she will be held until the grand jury ends its work in October. The judge speculated that Miller's confinement might cause her source to give her a more specific waiver of confidentiality, as did Cooper's.

Miller deserves it if she still refuses to testify. But intriguing- the source has given permission for their name to come out

Far stranger things have happened.

almost makes him sound noble, but leaking information is hardly noble, the source may be the true problem, but the reporter has a responsibility

i seriously hope she gets kicked into jail, but only if it'll teach her a lesson, not if it'll make her all self-righteous and sacrificial... i bet she writes a book about the whole thing and profits... we really need a puking smily in here

I am stupid?

How much would you like to bet Glirk, Foxtrot and possibly others would be in here defending him?

But lets look at what Rove himself said:

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_6981.shtml

However, a producer for MSNBC’s Hardball program testified before the grand jury that in July, 2003, Rove called the show’s host, Chris Matthews, and said Plame was “fair game.”

If Glirk or Foxtrot doesn't condamn that statement I expect a full apology from you.
