i just watched traptown again. when gordon blocks the door with the table, the enemies try opening it a few times. the door budges a little, but doesnt open all the way. i would assume that the equivalent of a player pressing the "use" button on the blocked door from the outside.

a little while later, as we all should know by now, the door gets kicked in.

that brings an interesting opportunity for people interested in making, lets say a SWAT mod where they would have to bust open some doors.

i dont know anything about anything, but there must be some sort of command or something that differs the "use" button technique the enemy used from the "kick this damn thing in" technique, which will put in some extra force in the push, or something.

anyone would like to comment on this?

shame on u guys; i think this is a good question an it is undeserving of your spam

it sounds nice id like to see what they did in rainbow six 3 where u could inch the doors open whether than just flat out opening them.

about kicking in doors right.....who cares. Its definitly possible but you shouldnt care if its in the game or not because if you just take some time to sit down and appreciate cheese for how it tastes, then you will be fine.

I wonder if they can kick any amount of weight out of the way, and if a door is blocked (in multiplayer for example) can you kick the stuff out of the way or do you just have to except the cheese?

Real SWAT members dont generally go kicking in doors guns blazing. They have a few methods to bypass doors such as using a crowbar like tool to disengage locks, and handheld battering rams. They can also use controlled detonations to destroy a door without making casualties out of the team. If you are kicking in a door you need room to run up which means the SWAT team cant be stacked at the door, also as the lead member you will be vulnerable after knocking the door down. Also if there is no threat directly behind the door you will give the entrance away.

PS. I hate the SWAT movie with a passion, what they need is a R6 movie based on the book.

SWAT mod = great idea, as well as kicking in doors, but is the Manipulator or wtf u spell it, is it on Multiplayer?

I'm guessing kicking in a door is achieved by holding the use button for a sec then letting go. Or running up to the door and then while moving pressing the use button. Or it's a different button altogether. Hope we don't get a lame 'foot animation' like in Duke Nukem (now THAT would be gay hehe). Interaction with barrels and the like would practically be the same manoeuvre. And yes, I like cheese, alot. Especially toe-cheese. Or the even fancier cheese: Beaver cheese! 100% smeg!
Ok that was disgusting.

They should make it so you can headbutt the door open.. much more fun :)

sigh only one good reply.

funny how people focused on the swat thing......

usally there are seperate buttons for kicking things.

I think it would be a cool addition if you are inside of a room and you use a command to lock the door. The outside enemies/human players would have to use the "use" button say 20 times and then when the "use" button is pressed after 20 then the door will automatically break open. Cool?

um...no not really.

if your suggesting lock picking the most common way is to hold the use button. Not only is it the must common way but its the best way...

Your right. A timer like the one used when setting the bomb in Counter-Strike would work much better.

The concept of lock picking but instead of the door just opening it would be kicked open.

sense busting the door open requires greater force then the hinges/door can hold locked, maybe a running npc or player could jump into it

once in air, ground friction is gone and you;d smack into it harder maybe?
:emu:

Omg I would block the door with a bed of spikes standing on end, try to run and jump into that.

Welcome to the HL2.net forums. Today's train of thought, brought to you by Amtrak.

I've cleaned it up now, removed all the idiotic posts.

It'd be nice if you could ride the door Equilibrium style after you kick it in...

if you haven't seen Equilibrium...go check it out! Great movie!

Usually in games, if I push on a door and it doesn't open I usually just search for an alternate route...being able to kick it in would make it a little more interesting...

There could be a "kick" button like there was in duke 3D it was great to kick people that were up close an would be great fun in HL2, you could kick people down stairs, kick in doors, kick shit over, even play football!!! (Soccer for you yanks)

im pretty sure this would be an easy mod to do.
