Killzone 2 on IGN

Pre-Pre Alpha exists bud, I went through the same stages at EA and Outerlight.

I never said it didn't.

What I'm saying is that what you are seeing in those videos has a good chance of being further in development than such a stage.

A ****ING MAZING!

I knew they would live up to the look, the gameplay looks better then Gears of War. CANT WAIT!

Going to pic up Killzone to get up to date.

Extended gameplay movie - (118MB HD) Instead of the black out as they land the video continues with realtime gameplay footage, too bad it cuts out to some random footage (but new) at 2:23.

I seriously dont see the big deal here.. I seem to recall that the original Killzone gameplay movies(first ones before release) looked awsome too, but Killzone turned out very average too.. Now they release a good-looking trailer and everyone's all like "ZOMGZ!"

What has happend to the modern gamers? Have they really become THAT shallow?

Asuka, is there ANY game you dont think's amazing?-.-

Plenty, but hey man, im a happy guy. Really there are WAY TO many games i cant WAIT for. Some ill be let down on some ill be happy about and some ill explode when i play.

asuka is like those girls that where allways screaming to the backstreet boys, just this is gamer case

As long as the frame rate remains high and constant I don't really care too much about the detail. Fancy visuals are all good, but not at the expense of content and smooth gameplay.

Ahh yes....exactly what "killed" the original Killzone. It looked good for a PS2 game, but in the end the game was ass. Plain and simple ass.

Admitedly, Killzone 2 looks great. But, the goal should be to keep the gamer interested for the whole game...not for one hour as the original did for me.

IMHO, Gears of War looks better than this build of Killzone 2. So, bring on the dubbed "Halo-killer".

Half-Life already killed Halo (which isn't a hard thing to do), and it's only dubbed a 'Halo-killer' because people say it's a 'Halo-killer', that doesn't mean it's actually going to be a 'Halo-killer'. The work Guerilla has been doing on this sequel looks fantastic, and is yet to be played by the public. I'd give it a chance.

We're all too willing to forgive and forget when a shiny, controlled demo comes our way. Everybody's been guilty of this at one point or another, so I'm not necessarily pointing fingers here.

That said, it's baffling that E3 can roll around year after year and people fall into the same traps again and again. 60-70% of what comes out of it inevitably turns into broken promises. Everybody's aware that these are tightly controlled presentations that are inherently deceptive or misleading. And yet phrases like "future GOTY" and "must buy" get thrown around with nary a gamer's hand to evaluate the experience being shown. And video game "journalism" is no help, when 98% of all previews sound glowingly positive even though at least half of the games tank when finally subjected to critical reviews.

It may all be pretty, but there is precious little information at events like this and the games on display. This is why, in light of this, I place my trust in track records. That's how I justify excitement in the next Valve, Blizzard, or Bioware title. If they show something amazing, I can reasonably expect to be able to play something amazing eventually. Developers like Guerillia Games hold no such record and inarguably failed to deliver on their promises last time. This is glossing over the abysmal Shellshock: Nam '67. So I have to wonder why people are already so eager to heap praise and decide on a purchase at this point.

Wow, STFU, please. Just stop talking, for all that is good.

Yeah, that was a fairly extreme example. Of course Half-life 1/2 mutilated Halo. What he meant to say was damn, good ol' Dark Forces killed it way back before release. Hell, Metroid, FEAR, the lot! Too bad Halo has been killed left right and centre.

Well put. I beleive we can close this thread now. I tend to recall a certain game named Killzone getting similar treatment....

I don`t like console games overall, not do I like consoles.
Pc> all

When I saw Halo 3, I was meh, same shit, new graphics, kinda old.

Then I saw Killzone 2, and I have to say, that game will prolly make me buy PS3.
Hands down, the best looking console game.
I know, Crysis will look better, but for some reason, looking at the gameplay of Killzone 2, it looks better. May it be the gritty, brutal firefights, unrealistic lighting and shading which makes it look so much better, I dunno, but Killzone 2 was just added into my must-buy list.

Halo 3 looked good too, but not so much. Killzone 2 has totally removed the "polygon" or "artificial" feeling (that`s what I call it, dunno how to describe it) from the game.

You know your just adding fuel to the fire, right? Not only that, but as a mod I would of thought you'd know better than to follow like a sheep to others leads and attempts to steer away from Killzone 2 and go off-topic. Just... stop. :|

Nope, flame bait here we come. And I'm perfectly within my rights to abuse the rules as much as possible.

Rules smules. :dozey:

Keep in mind what happened last E3, and how the first Killzone turned out. Don't go buying a PS3 for one game that might not even be good.

Rules smules, eh? That doesn't quite fit in with the angsty hissy fit you made over Paris Hilton topics but whatever, man; it's your court.

Yeah, buy it for all the other good games coming out. :)
Even still, it's incredibly shortsighted to buy a console based on potential. Wait until it's got four or five truly great games. If I could buy my 360 over again, I'd have waited until late 2006 :p

I'm still waiting. Maybe once Mass Effect and Too Human come out there'll be games worth buying an X360 for.

Ahhh, but I have no trouble abiding by the rules I myself set. ;)

Go corruption, go!

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. But you don't have absolute power yet Samon, you gotta share it with other mods. Absolute rulers do not share Samon, so you know what must be done.

And what games are there out that make the PS3 worth buying? Please do tell.
To be fair, there's games like MGS4, Final Fantasy, Lair, etc. that look pretty cool, and of course the crossplatform games like GTA4 and Assassin's Creed. It's not a bad lineup. That being said, I do overall prefer the 360's lineup of games, although it should be noted that E3 is a pretty bad time to choose which console to buy, since the majority of the demos and presentations are highly controlled, and a number of them are predominantly smoke-and-mirrors affairs.

Did anyone see any pre-rendered stuff this year?? I don't remember seeing any which is a great sign that finally devs have gotten up to speed with their respective hardware to at least show some pretty impressive stuff. Good news all around.

I mean smoke-and-mirrors in the sense that the demos are highly controlled. For all we know, since none of the demos were hands-on, developers of game X or game Y could have created "fully-featured" demos that really only did very specific things that the demo player did as a routine.

I`m glad something like Killzone 2 is coming out. I haven`t had any reason to buy a console yet, be it 360, PS2, Wii. Games are usually medicore or graphics are an ass.

Looks like Killzone 2 will be the reason to finally own a console.

So one of the reasons you bought a PS3 was because it was getting a sequel to a very mediocre PS2 FPS?

i have a lot of friends that HATED halflife1, so i should tell them not to get Halflife2?

i personally HATE GALO, its totally over rated, maybe its because im more of a PC gamer, but based on your logic, i shouldnt buy halo 3 for my 360?

Doesn't look like it's going to be a good game. I was actually rooting for Sony to have something this time, as I'm starting to pity them.

The game looks pretty bad, and I feel bad to say this, because I have friends that own Playstations (well, a couple of guys here on the forums), but I'm not going to pull any punches.

The entire game is black and white and low texture resolution. The only thing with color are the faces and the explosions. The explosions look pretty plain. The explosion from their buddies drop ship with the fire trail going down into the building was so bad... I've seen better stuff in Doom 3, and that game is years old. I'm sure people expected more from Playstation 3. The black smoke from the buildings is great, but big deal. The rest of the effects are a mixed bag of good and bad. The soldiers texture resolution looked low and colorless.

This looks absolutely crap compared to the old CGI Sony tried to put off as PS3 graphics last year.

So far, the 360 system is looking way more powerful graphically, just like I told you it would be before either of them even came out.

I feel sorry for playstation 3 owners. This marks the end of Sony's Playstation dominance. Their games so far look like 2 or 3 year old PC games, while the 360 games look on par or better than brand new PC games, and they run great.

You won't like what I'm saying if you are a Playstation fanboy, but I'm just telling it like I see it. Hey, at least you got a free game system with your Blu Ray player though. grats on that. I'll probably just pick up an HD DVD player when they are dirt cheap, like $175 or less.

I know there aren't any good games yet, but Is there any game on the PS3 with good graphics yet? How is the DiRT review? or did that not come out for PS3 yet?

I'd like to see and read about the differences between the three different versions of DiRT.

I've got DiRT for the PC, and it has the best graphics I've ever seen. I heard it is selling like crazy on the 360, but haven't heard anything about the PS3 version.

If you bought a PS3, you should get DiRT, as thats a great game if you like rally racing, and you've got to be desperate for something to play.

i 've played doom 3 on my pc, it is a good looking game, but i dont remeber seeing 50 characters on the screen at 1 time. it was more like 5-7 chracters on the screen at the same time. you'r3e right the game in pretty dark in color but if you READ the impressions on some website, behind closed doors, they took off the color filter, and the game looked good, but didnt give that " WE ARE IN WAR" look/feel. it all comes down to preference. artistic views.

honestly the game dont look soooooo interesting, atleast the graphics looks similiar to the prerendered trailer

The higher res trailers have actually put me off the Kilzone 2's visuals more than the tiny low res ones. Detail is lacking. This isn't a huge concern - as mentioned before, i'll take loads of action/content at a high frame rate over detail - but technically i'm no longer wowed.
