sorry that was a typo, i honestly didnt mean to spell it like that.
I mean smoke-and-mirrors in the sense that the demos are highly controlled. For all we know, since none of the demos were hands-on, developers of game X or game Y could have created "fully-featured" demos that really only did very specific things that the demo player did as a routine.

the ai for hl2 was supposed to be really good, but when the final game came, the ai was pretty retarded.
the effects and character models look better than this generation. The textures look like they would on a ps2. It is pre alpha, so I'm sure they'll have higher res textures.
It wasn't retarded (See "Gods and Generals") but it wasn't anything like Halo's.
