Has anyone heard of a game called Killzone? It's due to be released on PS2 later this year. Apparently it's Sony's "Halo Killer". Lol. Check it out - looks awesome.

They're going to have to add something special to the genre to make it some kind of 'Halo killer'; looking at the features of the game, it says you can't even use vehicles... seems like a bit of a pitfall to me.

Yeah the lack of useable vehicles is a real shame, as they played a big part in Halo. Sony and Guerilla do have almost a year to work on this though, and hopefully they'll respond positivley to public speculation and hype. True, though, branding an unfinished game that no-one knows anything about to be a "Halo Killer" is a big mistake - maybe we should wait to see how this game plays before we rate it. That's not to say that it isn't a Halo killer, however :p.

im confused. what is the game out with a simmilar name? or is it this?
*edit* ah, that is killswitch. i know little about either except some scraps of info and screens i got from my PS2 magazine, that i got free with my latest issue of PC gamer i have subscribed to.

At first, Killzone was named Kin. Don't know really why they changed it.

I think Kin was a little better name, like ICO.

I liked the look of those tanks alot so they better have them in it.

I noticed something a trend did anyone else notice the eyewear they got on it seems more games are using the glowing eyes, and without that affect there really isnt any diffrence from any other normal military shooters. Basically it just looks like any other military shooter but i only glanced at the pics, im sure they would have to have a decent game engine to rival Halo..

Yeah the graphics are meant to be much better than Halo's. Hopefully it will live up to the hype.

Kill.switch was an amazing game and had a killtacular commerical. Killzone on the other hand will be a fun shooter, but no Halo-killer. Breed is trying but will most undoubtedly come up short.

KZ is being developed by a company called Guerrilla, who are fairly new on the games scene. From the screenshots and reviews i've seen, it looks amazing, however, i'm not sure if a developer this new will take the time to think to cater to the needs and wants of the gamer. Mabybe too much will be put into the overall look of the game, and not the playability. What i'm saying here is that it must have a flaw somewhere! :)

Dude, the graphics better than Halo? ON PS2?! That's ****ing hilarious, the PS2 couldn't even handle Halos graphics without some major cutbacks on the graphics.

A shining example of how PS2 compares to half of what Xbox produces is in the Splinter Cell variations.

There are games on the PS2 that look better than Halo, whether you like it or not. Among them are GT3, SH3, MGS3, Jak 2 and yes - Killzone.

And to the guy who said SC was a good example, Splinter Cell got a shoddy port to PS2. It is one of the best looking games on X-BOX and pretty poor on PS2. A similar example is the MGS2 port to X-BOX, it ran at a constant 60 FPS on PS2 and had great graphics, then on X-BOX there were many areas where it was unplayable and the framerate hung around 30 in a lot of the games areas - in addition to this the particle effects were also much worse. I guess that doesn't count because it doesn't happen to support your argument?

The graphics argument is null. The whole game is null! Null, null, null!

A PS2 fanboy? Lovely. :)

I'm not a PS2 fanboy. I'll be the first to say that my PC is better than my PS2. I play my PC games more and generally think its better than PS2. However, I still like my PS2 and know full well that it has a few games with better graphics than Halo. It is my opinion that it is the better of the three consoles, mainly because of series like MGS, GT, Jak, Silent Hill, and maybe Killzone.

The only fanboys are the people who see Killzone or Gran Turismo 4 and say it looks like shit just because they didn't think the PS2 could do that or are upset that their X-BOX doesn't have those games. Also it's way too early to say whether or not the game is "null" - everything we've heard about it sounds promising.

smwScott, you need an eye surgery, Killzone does not look better than Halo, I havn't seen any bumpmapping in Killzone, there's tons of it in Halo. Have you seen Halo 2 also? That game OWNS MGS3s graphics and most other PS2 games graphics.

You're a PS2 fanboy, I love my PS2 just as much as my X-Box, but, X-Box do have better graphics capabilities.

I still think Killzone looks better than Halo, your insightful eye surgery comment doesn't really change that. It probably doesn't have bump mapping, but it has a lot of other features like multi-layered textures, better lighting, more impressive particle effects, and better character models. I have not seen much on Halo 2, so I can't talk about that. I will say that MGS3 is the first game to render huge jungles with lots of vegetation, animals, and squads of 6-8 guards. In addition to this the character models on everything, even animals are really amazing and the game features dynamic lighting and huge draw distances. Some of the level geometry can be a bit blocky and have low res textures, but there's a lot more to it than you see in screenshots.

And I think you probably are an X-BOX "fanboy" who threw that comment in at the end to make it seem like you weren't. The X-BOX certainly has higher potential, but so far it hasn't produced anything much better (arguably not better at all) than the PS2's best games.

Yeah, I do admit, MGS3 pwns all console games currently in dev imo, I loved MGS1, MGS2 was a huge dissappointment, MGSTTS for GC was lovely, MGS3 might be good, Kojima's focusing on GamePlay rather than story.:)

I have about 12 MGS merchandise, I even have a model of MGRex :D

The MGS series, is imo, 'Sonys' biggest 'ess'.

It's an incredible gaming series.

The third installment got huge attention at E3, I even managed to get in contact with Scott Dolph for a short short moment through the internet, I only managed to ask him like 2 questions, and they've been answered in officiall interview by now, MGS3 will be a revolution, mainly due to its huge environment(according to Konami the game won't need 'loading' for the environment but'll be 'loading' them partially as you walk in the jungle, and the entire jungle'll be open from the start.

Zakat: Do you mean that MGS3 stream the whole jungle like in Jak II? Cool!

Yeah, i think it can stream the whole jungle, but unfortunately it still has loading areas inside. Although in MGS2 it wasn't a problem, so it'll be fine in MGS3 as well.

And I agree, MGS is one of my favorite series. I actually liked MGS2, the gameplay is still unmatched in stealth games although the ending did kinda mess things up. Good to see another fan.

See? I'm not a total X-Box fanboy, especcially if you look at the fact that all in all I own 5 X-Box games and about 40 PS2 and PSOne ones.:P

PS2 is flat.
Xbox is bumpy.
Gamecube is both.

I own all three and try to make time for all of them. The only good my PS2 is now is to watch the intro to MGS2.
The Xbox is always on; friends go nuts with Xbox Live.
And my Gamecube (is Silver) and rests at the top of my entertainment stand, like a god. :) I play it for Metroid and Zelda.

How were you dissapointed with MGS2?! It was awesome!
MGS3 owns all btw :P

MGS3 may be good. Hideo relies too much on filters and camera's. He should just forget about making a game and make Machinima or atleast start a film starring Mr. Hayter.

Yes they are. That is why MGS2 was hailed for being graphically striking. With the right filter and camera movement any game can own. I mean looking at Call of Duty's TV Spot, the camera running and shaking through the battlefield. That commerical actually sold me the game. :)

Dude, MGS2s gameplay owned too, many reviewers gave it 9 for its gameplay, not only the camera, and MGS3 doesn't focus much on camera ect silly, they're focusing on GamePlay, you can climb trees, use your environment to your advantage ect.

and, I was dissappointed with MGS2 because it didn't live up to the hype imo, the Tanker chapter was good, but the Plant chapter sucked, the story got too ****ed up, MGS1 owned MGS2.

*Smooches his MGSTS for GC "I love you babe..!"*XD

My opinion theirs allready tons of games better then halo personally it was a let down. So a game that doesnt include drivable vehicles could definately be a halo killer.

From what i've seen killzone is a very promising game. There's a video of it that shows, it's alot similiar to halo 2 when there's a crossfire between enemie forces. Yes, the xbox has better gfx capabilities, but it all comes down the devs. With good coding and refinements any game can be good. Look at halo for the pc, my pc's much more powerful than an xbox, but there's lag on it and the textures are horrible on even on max settings. IMO silent hill 3 has the best gfx right now for any console game, but ninja gaiden looks to be able to top it.

Ninja Gaiden doesn't have the best, I have the demo so I know, but defenitly the smoothes graphics yet seen in a console game, they're smoother than a butt :P

Silent Hill 3 doesn't have the best for any console game, Biohazard Remake have, but in terms of advanced gfx Silent Hill 3 wins.

But MGS3s graphics will own all.

Incredibly smooth graphics, yet able to handle 8 full-polygon enemies on screen at once including particle effects and environment.

so, ninja gaidens gfx isn't that greath *sigh*..i haven't tried the demo yet. Does the gameplay rock?

The GamePlay owns your ass bitch ;) Atleast if you're aold-school fan of the Ninja Gaiden games.

hey, hey ...no need to be so foul zakat..Yes, i am an old school ninja gaiden fan. It looks more like Devil May Cry.

Since when did this thread be about MGS2 and Ninja Gaiden? Stick to the topic, please.

Lawl, maybe I should re-title this thread "random game talk" :P

This guy is absolutely correct, everyone should listen to him, there are many, many games on PS2 that look better than Halo. Don't be an idiot and say there aren't
