Kim Swift Leaves Valve for Airtight

I've been told that Valve doesnt really have "lead" positions or much in the way of manager positions at all really. That basically everyone is on the same level as each other. Is this true?

I heard Valve keep a team of small, disgusting men to run it's machines and sweep it's grounds.

Foxfire, you need to get a new computer.
What's my computer have to do with anything?

VAC also showed it's inability to do anything with hackers in the new Call of Duty. *Wait they did ban pirates and hackers once. I believe they found a work around already though.
VAC is actually doing surprisingly well on the hacker front. If you know anything about pirates, everything gets cracked and hacked. And no, right now there are no cracks that let you play COD:MW2 online outside of LAN (those cracks were patched out like 2 weeks ago at least). Hacks vs antihacks is a constantly moving battle. You can't just write 20 lines of code and be done with hackers for good. They will (almost) always find a way. It's a fact.

Well, I have to at least respect her courage to leave Valve, assuming that she had a secured job at a place that's the wet dream of every wannabe game developer trying to build up a portfolio consisting of half-assed maps and models in the naïve hope of getting a foot into their door.

The alluring opportunity of being able to build and lead her own team must've sounded better than whatever she must've seen as her career path at Valve.
****in' A. :|

I'm with the guy that said it sounded like she jumped at the opportunity to lead a design team. More power to her though, and I wish her the best.

I'm having a hard time seeing this as an impact at all on "Portal 2" though. "Portal" was a Valve game, and as such I'm still kinda baffled over Swift's popularity in relation to the game when Barnett, Lovejoy, Kircher (maybe some more "Narb Drop" folks, I dunno right-off) and the rest of Valve's "Portal" crew put just as much effort into the game. I mean, as far as I'm aware, doesn't Valve adhere to a strict "group effort" standard, i.e., no real "lead" or any of that?

And wasn't Garret Rickey the designer for "Narbacular Drop," with Swift acting as a producer and additional programmer for the title?

I think it that since Kim was the public face of the game she was the one that did most of the interviews and the commentary that she received far more praise that she actually deserved. Same like Gabe he is just a small part of Valve he even he says he gets far to much credit for the success of Valve and the games just because he's the public face of Valve.

You can understand why it's hard to look past Gabe though.

She did mention that she wanted to work with her friends somewhere there. Maybe Airtight just has a lot of her old friends working there and she wanted to be closer to them.

Apparently if you guess something right one time you are completely incapable of saying retarded things.
