Kojima Proves MGS4 is Real-Time [Video]

I was referring to the one that showed the creature coming out of the manhole and then the large dinosaur-ish beast walking by, albeit with a crappy framerate. Not a lot of detail there, but enough to see that they were onto something hot! And those environments were pretty cool too, though did they really show that much more, even with the pretty disco lights on a model?

It demonstrated texturing, lighting, animation, physics, and so forth. Yeah, I find that to be a bit more than this video. But that doesn't mean I'm selling my soul to Epic.

What are your feelings on the pre-rendered and scripted Half-Life 2 demo that was so controversial long before the game ever came out? That might be illuminating for the rest of us. ;)

I was certainly mighty displeased when I played the alpha myself and saw it was a bunch of fakery. The following year's E3 seemed a lot more believable and more accurate portrait of the product being shipped.
That said, the first HL2 footage to roll around was something to get excited about because the promise seemed believable. It was all in-game, all-animated. It wasn't some cutscene. It demonstrated actual gameplay. I wouldn't blame people for falling for it, as we weren't really capable of seeing the scripted nature of the presentation until the alpha was leaked.

About what? Have you paid any attention to what I've been saying. I won't bother explaining it to another person, so feel free to reread my posts.

Great. And it shows nothing. If they paused it mid-gameplay then I'd be more impressed. But all they showed was a paralysed model. WOOHOO. I CAN FEEL THE EXCITEMENT PUMPING THROUGH MEH VAINS.

:| If you don't see where I'm coming from on this, then it's best this all just stops.

No, I don't see where your coming from. Just what is your point. The team said that it's in game, and that the game will look somewhat better by the time it releases. Either they're lying or they're not (hint: they're not).

If the static image demo where they manipulated the camera and the lighting effects was all they showed, then I would agree with you, that doesn't say shit. The point is that they took this out of a cutscene that was running in real time to drive the point home that it is in real time. Then they took the opportunity to show off a few fancy effects. That's not supposed to be the impressive part, the trailer is, the little demo was just proof.

My point: The trailer is indicitive of what the final game will look like.

Your point: It's easy to apply lighting effects to a static image (which may be true, doesn't discount the fact that it's impressive that the engine is capable of it and that this was only a miniscule part of the presentation).

I am sure they are not so stupid to say lies about it cuz if that is not ingame the people will notice it and it will be bad for them

i dont think Kojima would lie, he is one of honest deveolpers imo , go check all the MGS trailers , they all in-game even the graphics gets better when the game release

Here comes the clue train! Last stop is you!

I never said it wasn't in-game.

Absinthe, no one is selling their soul to Kojima or Konami or anyone else. They're just excited about the next-gen version of a great current gen title. If you're not excited about it, don't post.

An especially don't post with huge fonts and all caps and such here. Go to the Gamespot forums for that kind of nonsense please. Thanks!

It didn't look that bad, but it wasn't really as impressive as everyone seems to say it is. I honestly think Ghost Recon 3 and Gears of War look a hell of a lot better, as some of the texturing looked quite awful. They have plenty of time to tidy it up, though, I guess. But, regardless, I enjoyed the original and MGS3, so I'm hoping they're going to provide plenty of entertainment and pretend they never made MGS2.

So then what the hell is your point? You were saying that the tech demo part where they moved the camera around and played with the lighting effects wasn't very impressive ... ok but that was just them going out of the way to prove it was real. That wasn't the main demonstration and only a few people saw it. You also said that anyone could put together something like that in a 3D rendering program ... but the point was that it was running in real time in-engine on PS3 hardware, and that they could apply these effects at any time.

Please, tell us exactly what you're trying to say about the MGS4 presentation. You certainly don't seem to think fondly of it, please explain why.

I'm merely saying that this video shows nothing to get excited about, and I'm very much entitled to speak my reaction to it and the posts regarding it, even if it doesn't consist of affectionate slobber.
If you have issue with that, then go make your own MGS4 topic and put "Absinthe not allowed" in the title.

You can leave your condescension at the doorstep, thank you.

And Scott, I've detailed my point quite enough in this topic, and I believe I've already stated that I'm not going to take my time laying it out again. At least not for you. You didn't understand for some reason, and I'm doubtful you will any any near future.

You know exactly what I meant and you know I understand what you said, I was just pointing out how you trampled all over yourself. You attempted to justify not being impressed (something you don't have to justify, an opinion is an opinion) by suggesting that the scene where they played with the lighting and camera didn't mean anything because anyone could create a similar demonstratation. The only reason I even posted in this at all was to point out that the point wasn't that the little demo was supposed to be impressive but rather to prove the legitamacy of the trailer and to show that the engine is capable of advanced lighting/shadowing. You seemed to be suggesting that those graphics wouldn't be indicitive of actual gameplay, I and a few others said that it will be ... that's all there is to it.

I've just repeated myself for a few posts because you keep saying I don't understand you, as if what you were saying was so inherently complicated... So whatever, I'm done.

Trampled over myself? I've been clear as a bell. I've said that the video shows nothing and that you people are getting juiced up over something unworthy of your excitement. You're right, I don't need to justify excitement or a lack thereof, but then I see you attempting to do the same. Irony?

Of course, you can go ahead and spooge on your Kojima poster if it makes you feel better. I certainly can't help you.

I don't live in the best of neighborhoods--its best if I keep it with me at all times. :P
