Don't you think those unfair and anti expression of political freedom laws have made them violant. Besides the only violance I have ever seen on TV was of Police brutality against protestors.
I have seen that more often with European protests (the police attacking protestors before any real violence was initiated)

In America (nowadays I mean) protests can get rowdy but I don't think on a violence scale is even noteworthy, from either the police or protestors)

But Grey Fox, in South Korea I have seen countless videos, articles, and first hand accounts that often protestors there are the ones who make the first moves and eventually cause big casualties. They DO beat police and anyone they see as opposing them.

Really look up the information on this for that nation and don't assume the way things work here are the same worldwide- just because someone protests doesn't mean they're standing up for something good or going about it in a justified way.

I don't find the protestor's violence justified in anyway, but I would think something big must be pissing them off to be protesting with violent and lethal ways.

15357, brainwashed? No

Take a look at N and S Korea

South Korea has all the awesome technology, ingenuity, hot chicks, and capitalism. North Korea has communism, oppression, and the same haircut for everyone.

I'd say the northern commies are brainwashed

Keep fighting the good fight 15357, capitalism and democracy FTW!

Correction: The whole rioters severely beating police is criminal.

the police are doing the same thing, even worse beating people with riot shields.

my Grandpas cousins died in Dresden, imo it was a war crime..but since the germans started it,they kinda deserved it as well...and its more then 60 years ago now,no use in whining about it

That is what I have been saying. If democracy = beating up police, I'd much prefer a totalitarian state.

You know what, alot of germans thought the same thing, and before they knew it their neigbors started disappearing overnight, watch what you wish for.

yeah, well, they must have done something wrong, right?

Democracy doesn't equal beating up police. That rarely ever happens here in the states.

Ironically I think numbers may be correct in this case, I think i'd trust his opinion of his own people rather than those whom haven't a clue. Fact

It's anecdotal.

I think it's very difficult to pass judgement, since each case of violence is circumstantial, it should be judged on a case-by-case basis.

It's hard to find any sort of explanation of what they're protesting about.

Anyone got any links?

They are protesting the FTA's new deal of globallization. - 40% of pics

Also the new US base of pyeongtek - 40% of pics

More pay for workers. - 20% of pics

Thats what they are protesting. That is ALL of it. They are all Union workers or DLP funded left-wing groups. (a clear breach of national security, if you ask me)

Protesting is a human right (as is freedom of thought and opinion).

How does it compromise national security in any way?

The pictures don't really tell the whole story.

The riot police are there to protect the public from the idiots throwing firebombs and bricks. Sometimes the idiots just don't get it until they get clocked in the head with baton or riot shield.

I'd live in Canada too if I could. British Columbia. So beautiful... have been through there many, MANY times. Though i'd require high speed internet.

15357 please explain to me what is going on in Korea as of now. Last I knew about Korea North was led by some crazy ass and South remained fine. It is divided at the 38th parallel and you live in South Korea right? So what is the deal? Are the commies trying to invade your country again?

The Communist Party is defined as an organization trying to bring down the S. Korean Goverment and the nation, in the National Security Law. The communist party preaches communism (duh), so, the protesters funded by communist and lefty groups are a threat.

Also, the anti-US protesters are trying to bring down the one thing that has stopped the North from re-engaging in war.

Union-led strikes severly damage the economy.

Some people hate the US and the new FTA deal. (free trade and US base on Pyeongtek) They don't want it so they grab their pipes and get into schools, civil buildings, military sites, ect. The combat police try to get them outof their ILLEGAL occupation, and they retaliate by throwing huge amounts of rocks and firebombs and also by beating the police up with iron sticks. It is usually the protesters who make the first move, however.

Canada? Low crime?
Not sure. I was in vancoucer, and the amount of homeless people around was horrifc. At one point I drove past an electronics store with a broken window, then 200m down the street there was a black man in very tatted clothing, probably homeless running with a TV in his hands...hehe.

Seriously, stop doubting Numbers unless you too live in Korea.

Yeah.

I see allot of stereotyping towards Koreans going on in this thread.

Mainly the whole thing with "zomg he's brainwashed!".

Hi guys

I don't have much to say, as I don't know anything really about Korea.

The only thing I've noticed is that numbers associates "democracy" with "globalisation".

And to this, I disagree. I can imagine how globalisation takes away the power of democracy and gives it to corporations.

The only thing left to discuss in politics nowadays is wether or not we can smoke in public or issues like abortion and gay marriages etc...

The real issues aren't dealth with by politicians anymore, because they don't control these issues anymore... big bucks corporation do.

There have been huge riots in Europe as well, not against democracy, but against globalisation. Think of smaller European businesses being bought by corporations and then being shut down and rebuilt in a low-income country like China.

Almost everyone forgets that a couple of years ago (100?), people didn't have a voice. Our democracy can be taken away just like that. Globalisation is potentially a very serious threat to democracy.

So to summ up, I can see how people could be against globalisation.

Also, beating and violence doesn't solve anything. But sometimes, there's no other choice. So numbers, can you tell us if those protesters could use other means than violence to be heard?

Nothing democratically, and also I don't associate globalizaton with democracy. Economy =/= politics.

There's no word in the english language that would clearly express nor summarize my thoughts and feelings on the subject of what few people there are on this forum who would argue numbers as being Brainwashed for believing in the saftey and preservation of absolute freedom in South Korea, and the protection of its public and property.

For the record, these riots are not peaceful protests. The common misconception about Riot Police is that they're there to oppress the people making statements. No, they're there to protect the saftey of public and private property in Commercial, Residential, and Industrial Zones which were damaged by the Protestors or had business denied or threatened.

Further, its protect innocent bystanders.

If it were'nt for they're shields, the Police probably would've all been seriously injured or killed; including the people not involved with this riot.

But sometimes, there's no other choice

What ignorant reasoning excusing wars like Iraq ...

Why you revive thread?

My dog can hear the jerky bag in the other room, even in the other end of the house. Everytime I pull out some jerky, he's right there.
