L4D Bug - Expert to Advanced

Not sure if this is being talked about yet but I've noticed it happening a few times.

I'll start or join a expert room, start playing, get hit by a tank and not get downed and notice that the difficultly has been switched to Advanced.

It happens each time you load the level, screwing with my "What are you trying to prove" achievement.

You have to switch it back to expert every time a level loads. Pretty annoying. Hasn't happened every time I'm playing but it happens frequently.

I emailed Gabe about it.
 
There are definitely a few bugs in the game ! Last night we were playing a game, which was set up in a lobby as a campaign game. Part way through the game we get the message "you killed (insert name)" and we're like eh ? The game had randomly switched itself to versus and two people had joined the opposing side !

Don't worry, one time while playing versus on Dead Air, we beat the first level, then it got switched to one of the campaign levels, and 4 of the people were spectators....we had to return to the damned lobby to fix that one.
 
Ahhh that makes sense. I was playing Dead Air last night and noticed we killed the two tanks at the end way too easy. I even checked difficulty and it said expert but I knew something wasn't right.
 
I've seen this happen, there are quite a few bugs at the moment, unlimited grenades, fast melee attacks, smoking tank, infected bosses can revive players etc. They will fix these all in one big patch on Steam shortly, I'm certain they are looking to ship all the updates in one go.
I emailed Gabe about it.

I've never seen any of those bugs, then again, I don't play with pubbies, so that probably helps. I'm curious about them, though. Not to do, but what they/how to do em.
 
It's best not to spread them around too much, as they ruin the game. But L4D 411 enjoy posting videos of how to do them on their front page which I think is ridiculous, each to their own. So yeah, check out their video archives.
 
Yeah, I'll not spread it around to people I know that would do it.....I just like knowing these things for some reason.

Versus is quite buggy atm. The survivor ai won't even move out of the safe rooms. If they do and reach the other safe room,they'll just stand in there and the map wont end at all.
 
how were you able to play death toll on versus? it doesnt allow you.
 
You Can't PLAY Death Toll, you get moved to that map, while the infected all get moved to the Spectator side...
 
^ No no. I was able to play as the infected on Death Toll. One of my teammates moved to the Survivor team so he could lead the bots. I only played for a couple minutes.

I'll quote this so we are clear...
Versus mode is only playable on No Mercy and Blood Harvest.
Dead Air and Death Toll don't support Versus mode, you didn't play it on versus.

Normal, working versus doesn't support DA and DT, but playing versus on them is hardly impossible, if glitchy. I've experienced this a couple of times when joining a campaign server, only to find out that the game is not co-op at all, but a strange version of versus.

One of the main reasons for only two campaigns being playable on versus is that those campaigns have had their maps changed to better accommodate player-controlled infected. In normal campaign games, rooftops in ground-level maps (for example) aren't usually graphically rendered at all, since the survivors would never have a look at them. The "glitched versus" has these "bugs", even when it takes place in supported campaigns. I'm not sure if the (player) infected can even climb buildings properly.

It's possible alright, although it reminds more of a TF2-imported Portal map than accidental extra content.
 
The versus map versions also have balance changes to some areas of the maps, noteably the finale buildings.
 
Thank god the stairwell in No Mercy finale is open. That would be a gay fest for humans lol.
 
I think the expert to advanced bug is also present in Versus mode on servers which allow you to vote for changed difficulty.
 
BTW, in glitch-versus difficulty voting has no effect, it seems to be eternally locked in normal.
 
only glitch ive had is "safety first" achievement not unlocking. it always shows at the end i had 1 friendly fire incident (other bots all had 0) although i know for sure ive not hit anybody, and definately not had a friendly fire warning on screen.

a bit irritating as ive gone through no mercy maybe 6 times now on different difficulties and still haven't unlocked it. ive even been careful to make sure i dont melee my team too just in case that was doing it

It must have been a server-side thing then.

I think voting may have no effect, but it's locked at server difficulty - it can be changed by a server admin though. Not always normal.

I got this achievement by unbinding mouse1 and not picking up any pipebombs/molotovs. I just used melee and let the bots take care of the rest. If you want to check if you've done any FF before reaching the end, just type "report" in the console.

This also led me to discover something... if you type "report all" in the console, you get a report on everyone, including any spawn special infected. This can be used as a kind of cheat to detect special infected the instant they are spawned. :O
 
I've looked at peoples game, where you see the map, and it says "Versus_Expert" or Versus_Normal" etc...
I also know for a fact you can set it to expert somehow, because when you die in a few seconds to a hunter attack...that's not normal.
 
Yeah server admins can do it Pitzy. It's luck of the draw what you get at this stage if you search from a lobby.
