Ok while playing some games, like quake 3 (and Most of its mods but some seemed to not lag me up at all) and half-life in Direct 3d mode kinda lag, on the net and in single player. Now you first conclusion may to get Direct x 9b. I have Direct X 9b. Now your 2nd thing is get a better graphics card. I took a Geforce 4 mx420 pci out of my old comp and put it in this one to try n fix it. Still no change in performance for those games. I have the latest patchs for my graphic cards. Now i know Quake 3 is based upon Open gl and half-life in d3d is obvisouly Direct 3d. So why do i get it a bit laggy. My older computer (the one i took the graphics card out of) is 1400mhz slower, and can run it fine. I tried changing mouses, nothing. I use windows XP my other computer is windows ME. I have another XP made from the same company although this one is faster and has more ram the other one runs it more smooth. Why is this??

Most games run fine, onsept for HL in direct 3d mode, and Quake 3 and most of its mods. I can run HL fine in OpenGl.. i can get at least 70fps at 1152 x 864 and 32bit color and normal screen. Also for HL in D3D mode i can get 60 to 100 fps in the same mode (even when its laggy).

Also by lag i mean when i shoot the animation or sound is late. When i move my mouse it kinda waits 1 or 2 seconds before moving. On my keyboard the same thing that happens with my mouse happens. Im mostly hoping HL2 wont do this but i wanna fix it just incase.

This is in SINGLE PLAYER. I wouldnt even try to play multiplayer with this bad of "Lag".

So what u guys think it is?

Do you run Zone Alarm Pro? That's been known to cause that "sticky keys" kind of lag. If you have a firewall, in general, try disabling and seeing if you still get the same problems.

As for running HL in D3D, it's not suggested. D3D runs like crap in HL, regardless of your system. It's not built for DX, it's an OpenGL app at heart..

K, i dont run zone alarm and i dont have a firewall. Hell even my 700mhz computer can run in D3D mode better than this one :(. Thats kinda sad. I have no firewalls. I do have mcafee wich i make routine checks with but but other computers have this to and dont have the "Lag" thing or the Mcafee Firewall. But what about Quake 3???. I mean some mods work like Military Forces but other like Quake 3 itself, Navy Seals:Covert Operations, and Truecombat just make insane lag. Ill just screw around with Quake 3 settings.

And through all that text, I fail to see a single word about which card you have... Do you have a unknown intel card with 1mb onboard memory from 1990? Then I understand why it lags, and no you cant tune it. If you have a Radeon 9800XT, then I dont understand, and its something that should be fixeable.

So what is it?

No my oringal graphics card is a S3 Prosavage DDr. (32 megs). The otherone i placed in here is a Geforce 4 Mx 420 pci (64 megs). Its weird....

Both suck, get a new one :p

That ought to fix it..

lol, but on a damn 700mhz comptuer it ran fine!! The Geforce 4 is ok for now!! Im not really rich ya know............Its prob my Athlon Amd 2400+ processor or somtin. Maybe my win xp is being gay. Or maybe Microsoft is haunting me for something. Seriously come on how can a
2ghz amd athlon processor with a better graphics card not compare to a
700mhz Intel celeron processor with a shitty 5meg intel graphics card
in some games. TELL ME THAT, AND TELL ME NOW!!

"No my oringal graphics card is a S3 Prosavage DDr. (32 megs)."
Lol, there's your problem. Even the G4MX is better than that, and both are still lousy. Its the eqvivalent (probably slower) of a Geforce 256 SDR I think. Spend $100 and at least get into modern budget range.

But you arnt answering me question....your just saying its lousy...but in my question graphics cards so is this my problem when A SLOWER COMPUTER IS RUNNING FASTER THAN A FASTER COMPUTER USING THE SAME GRAPHICS CARD. THIS IS NOT BASED ON GRAPHICS CARDS. This is based on somtin else. UNDERSTAND YET!! THE 700MHZ COMP WITH THE SAME GRAPHICS CARD WAS WORKING BETTER.

*sigh*

When it comes to computers it can be basicly anything that's wrong. You can very rarely point a finger and say, "that's it!". What we do know is that you two crapass cards, of which one isnt even fit to be an ashtray. Using it with a computer over 1ghz is defiling the CPU.

But anyway, have you updated mobo drivers? Those can affect speed pretty much, and thus lag. You say the rest runs fine. That shows its not a specific problem, most likely flawed drivers.

....I have the latest updated drivers for almost all my stuf.. Onless there is an update for my processor....i looked around the amd website for that but didnt c it..and about post before this one i had to go get on the bus thats why it kinda of....in caps and kind of...."Yelling"
Ill look for an update for my motherboard...ill go c what it is really quick then ill look. Thx for your help.
And this computer if u wanted to know is 2ghz. The MX i admit is pretty shitty but hey it can run most games at medium quality....
