Just got back from seeing it, I was pretty impressed. Not a catch on Night and Dawn, but waaaay better than Day. The people I went with preferred Day alot, and wearn't very impressed with the film. But what can I saw, guns, explosions and gruesome death scenes win me over, I was entertained.

Anyone else seen it? It came out tonight here, but I know its been out for awhile in American I think. Iunno.

My opinion:

WORST RUCKING MOVIE SINCE FOREVAR

Tis a shame Romero's reputation had to be soiled by this shit. ;'[

It was crap.

Too much gore,

Where was the story, oh look resident evil and about everyother movie there was no difference just a generic zombie film,

Shaun of the dead that was cool, it was funny:)

Yeah, I agree with Joule, except with proper spelling and grammar. *twitch* :E

Ehm... since it IS a zombie-movie I think that gore deserves a role in this movie, but that doesn't save its ass from complete humiliation.
It's impressive how the guy who's the mind behind zombie movies in general can manage to fück everything up like this. I do know that the zombies started to communicate in the end of Day of the Dead, but that should NEVER have happened, zombies should not use weapons, and one should not use CGI unless it actually looks good...

People went to see a Romero Zombie movie and are complaining about the gore? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

I enjoyed the movie, I agree not as good as Dawn of the Dead or Night of the Living Dead but better than Day of the Dead. What did you people expect? A Citizen Kane killer? Also, Frank, who the hell are you to say what Zombies should and shouldn't do? Romero created the Zombies we know and recognize today, they're his lore, just like how Hobbits are J.R.R. Tolkien’s and Vampires are Bram Stokers.

I expected something big and all I got was shit...

The best part of the movie was actually the intro credits. That was very stylish - the rest was just a bunch of shit

If "all you got was shit" then you went into this movie with your expectations set way too high. Land of the Dead isn't any worse than anything else Romero has done.

I enjoyed it very much so. Though, it was definetly not better than Day. I'd watch it over Night and Dawn though.

''Too much gore'', bahaha. Shaun of the Dead was okay, but I think its very overrated.

Well, back when he made Night of the Living Dead it was a groundbreaking movie, but seen with the eyes of today it's even cheesier than you dare to fear. Dawn of the Dead 2004 was in my opinion fantastic! It had no story what so ever and it was rather brainless but Zack Snyder (I think that's the name of the director) really knew how to keep the movie going - and I guess that's pretty tough when you think about where the story takes place...a god damn mall, hehe! When comparing Romero's Land to Snyder's Dawn then there's no comparison. It seems as if Romero has lost track of today's filmmaking where Snyder is the new Romero, though I don't think he's the one who's gonna direct the new version of Day of the Dead. Yep, you heard me... they're talking about making a new version of Day...

EDIT:
Hehe... I forgot to comment on the first part of your post :)
My expectations were actually extremely low! The awful heavy metal that got played throughout the trailer made me think of the RE movies which isn't a good sign at all. A lot of people from another board I post on liked the movie, so I thought that it might not be as bad as I feared, so when it opened here in Denmark I watched it on the first day. It was so bad I had to go and watch Batman Begins one more time...

The movie was great. All you people suck. No useful contribution.

Snyder the new Romero? He's made one film and that is Dawn of the Dead which is a remake of...Dawn of the Dead. If he had made an original movie starting a new genre of horror/sci-fi/fantasy/etc., then he could be compared to Romero but he isn't.

Dawn of the Dead 2004 was basically just your run of the mill action movie with olympic runners. Now, I'm not afraid of change. I can accept things changing. As long as they're gradual. The zombies run faster than any human, which is ridiculous. I could understand some can run but most walk or at least they can only run in the beginning of their cycle or something, but no, they run like they got someplace to be soon the whole movie. I can only hope an experienced director takes hold of the Day remake and makes it into the full movie Romero always wanted it to be.

True...true... he may not be the new romero, but he knows how to make a zombie movie, and he managed to make Dawn into an entertaining bloodfest whereas Land is nothing but crap. Seriously, how can you as a director accept a scene where a young hot mexican girl for something like that steps into a room and says, "My name is blabla... but you can call me Motown" ? I'm not saying that Snyder's Dawn of the Dead was any less cheesy but it's definitely better than Land.

Zombie movies aren't really that convincing so I don't mind the zombies are running since it makes them a lot more scary.

I'm not saying it wasn't entertaining, it certainly was, but I feel Romero's Land was far better and more entertaining. With Snyder's Dawn, I could see the ending a mile away. With Land, I really didn't know what to expect next. Snyder's definetly got style though which I can respect. He knows what he's doing. I just hope he does Frank Miller's "300" justice when he films it next year.

He's also the one behind the Rainbow Six movie so we'll see what he's made of when that hits the theatres...

Seconded. I know Romero is known for obvious social commentary, but I enjoyed it.

It was a gamble to make Zombie characters with more than Bite/Die as their script. I thought the 'Big Daddy' zombie was well done, the zombies really seemed to be 'evolving' instead of just cheesily shooting guns.

Oh well.

It sounded as if the 'Big Daddy' had to go to the bathroom reaal bad...
And what the hell was up with the ending?
"All they want is a home just like us..."

I thought the ending was pretty good.

The film basically changed the perspective on the zombies. Instead of mindless flesh-eating extras that were fun to kill you actually started to feel sorry for them (at least I did :E)

Yeah, ever since Dawn of the Dead when they started to remember their human emotions and memories, you become more sympathetic toward them.

Wasn't there a breif clip of radio-static speech in the beginning saying something like ''eventually they will learn to <something> no matter how primitive their ways are'' Or something like that.

The guy that stole Dead Reckoning, who got bitten towards the end, what was he in, filmwise? It was bugging me pretty bad when I got out the cinema. I remember him from Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge but I could swear he's in something else.

Spawn, Spun...its John Leguizamo. He's been in a lot of movies.

And the quote you quoted is from Day of the Dead. If you haven't seen it, you should. Its easily the best Dead movie in the series. No, I don't care what half the members here say. Even Romero agrees with me its the best one he made.

I've seen Day, but at a party. And you know what watching a film like surrounded be people that are drunk is like. I can't remember that quote, though. I'll go rent it out.
