Hi,

Myself and a few of my friends will be trying to accurately create locations around the world using the halflife 2 engine.

Imagine fighting on the Hoover Dam or battling to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

I think this could be great fun, especially if you have actually been to the locations.

So do you think

A) This a good idea?.. If so...

B) What locations would you like see?..

And finally:

C) Would anyone like to join in on the fun?

Feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

A) of course, who woudn't
B) queen mary II, statue of liberty, the alamo, some big plaza :D
C)what the first guy said :E

Ok so there not really landmark's but they would be cool.

1)The Titanic
2)A Theme park
3)The Empire state building or something similar.

lol, thanks for the quick responses.

Antartica? Hmmmmm. Interesting, might be fun. (Kinda like the Sahari Desert :| )

I do like the idea of the Tower Bridge.

Statue of Liberty would be really hard to do i'm guessing.

Empire state building would also be cool, however i would prefer not to base the entire map indoors.

Keep them coming :)

pentagon, and ehm i dunno, thats all i can think off

Although the Pentagon might be fun, I’m not sure if I could get detailed layouts for that building lol, unless there are some dodgy characters or government agents on this forum :)...which wouldn't surprise me.

yeah the empire state building would tickle my fancy. i could see one falling for 20 seconds onto a road or soemthing. maybe you could do an apartment building or soemthing, wiht staircases and lobbys. that might get a bit tricky though

So far there has been a great response, however surely there are some mappers out there who would love this kind of project?

Theres only so many maps we can make per month, but with more people we should be able to accurately recreate locations in the world and get these maps out to the HL2DM community, as there is a serious lack of "Good/Fun" maps.

I mean if we get lots of known locations in the world, i'm more than happy to host several servers with a map cycle based on locations lol. Just an afterthought, browsing or "Cycling" the world. :)

a. its a great idea. b. the pyrimids, or the twin new york towers area

birmingham

the Birmingham bullring and mailbox centrex would be interesting.

Yes, the Birmingham Bullring is an excellent idea, however i haven't actually been so it might prove harder to map. I will consider this for the future though, only an hours drive.

Being a certified jackass and a pompous jerk I'm going to mostly answer A. Vaguely interesting concept, overall though, rates about a .5 on my excit-o-meter. These spaces are not designed for gameplay, they generally involve large very open areas with repetitious patterns. I'm not saying you couldn't make something that takes the flavor, and maybe even some design from a real place. But what makes the Eiffel tower the Eiffel tower ? And if you aren't making the whole thing why can't it just be something else ? (alright the steel girders give it away but you try and make the 22nd floor of the empire state building look different from every other office building)

Ah well, guess I'm just no fun or something, as a mapper I'd much rather draw inspiration from sources rather than trying to recreate them. I'd rather tell my own story with a map rather than somebody elses.
