I bought a laptop to take to University and haven't properly used my desktop since. That might just be because my desktop was a hunk of shit and my laptop is better for games.
I do everything on my laptop now, all my work is on here and the few games that I do play are on here. I just find them more convenient.

I dropped my Dell Studio 15 countless times. Recently, I dropped it onto laminate and the bit that holds the power button in place cracked, so I couldn't turn it on. The laptop itself was fine though. These were pretty high drops.I dropped my laptop a distance of like 1ft, and the screen assploded and the thing pussyfooted out of existence, whereas I dropped my desktop down the god damn stairs. That bastard is still soldiering on (but required new armor plating).
I don't know why people think it's impossible to game on laptops. I use a razer Diamondback when I play games like CSS, and it runs perfectly (100fps+) on my Studio 1555. Even Batman: Arkham Asylum works perfectly at native res on highest settings.Really the only reason you would need a laptop is if you cant possibly get a laptop, or you're at a uni that doesn't have enough PC's. If you do buy a laptop then get a cheap netbook for typing and internets.

As a plus, it makes turn-based games like Worms: Reloaded and Heroes 3 much more fun, when you can pass the laptop round to friends instead of having to move every round or sit scrunched up at a desktop.
But I guess it's just what you like.
Thread's over, guys.Desktop and netbook is the best possible combination.
My Studio 15 cost around £700. My gaming desktop had the same specs and cost me £1k. I built it myself too, with the help of Brick, so I knew I was getting it cheap. Probably part of the reason I used my laptop almost exclusively from then on, and sold my gaming rig to my brother for £350 :Eno one thinks it's impossible. It's just that for the same money as an ok gaming laptop you can get a really good desktop which you can keep upgrading. Thats why I prefer desktops over laptops.

Good news is that it isn't baloney. It's just a plain old stupid comparison. What a load of baloney.
