Largest earthquake in 50 years.

1 less troll to invade off-topic.

Kinda reminds me of the hl2.net comic... :|

BBC world news estimate over 10 000 now dead this is at 815 GMT
may their God be with them

man this is really sad, I feel for all the remaining people suffering through this and for the families of those who fell victim to this. Talk about out of the blue.... Nirvana was right, nature is a whore.

Aftonbladet says 11 000, 2 swedes are confirmed to be among the dead.

Horrible...

According to finnish news sources a number of finnish people are in hospital there, but no one in critical condition or dead.

3 Swedes are dead and plenty wounded, can be more.

This is a sad, sad day.

TBH, as long as it doesn't happen in Europe or North America, I don't let it ruin my day too much, it's sad, but it is in no way going to make me cry for thousands I never knew.

Oh please, Aftonbladet.

Horrible none the less.

Its very sad, the only thing that annoys me is how they keep going on about the tourists in the news and how awful it is for them. Well sure poor tourists, but I think the people who live there having their homes destroyed is a little worse :\

remember one richster scale is a thousand times stronger than previous one.

Wow 3 post in a row...you get a cookie.

No. 10 times stronger. The richter-scale is a logarithmic scale, just like the pH-scale.

I think this is horrible but natural disasters have been happening often imho TO OFTEN like in the US tons of airports have been shutdown because of the snow, usually places where it doesnt snow it snows really messing up the way things work for instance the tow only has 2 snow plows. Another thing was the four or so hurricanes that hit florida this year ;/ and they also hit other islands such as jamaica which still havent recovered to this day ( i have relatives there) when stuff like this happens you cant really do anything but hope an dpray and send money to the red cross but i dont even think red cross could handle an issue like this . :(

I think you worded that wrong, or it means you know every single person in Europe and America.

But wherever it happens, it is always sad for me. When i heard about it, i thought "oh no, an earthquake", then i remember that my friend might of been out there, in Phuket or Bangkok, and my fears turned a lot worse.

Luckily, he is now in Brisbane, which is good.

Since I don't want to be too inconsiderate to people who have friends over there, I wont say too much. However, don't lash out so fast at people who say they don't care. I'm sure they would rather people didn't die, but human beings really don't care unless its affecting them personally. Its just a fact of life...Also, the reason why tourists are mentioned so much, is the fact that country of origin is usually the closest tie we have to anyone over there, and that brings it home a little more.

Its a tragic day around the World, thousands are dead, and have lost thier homes...
we should all care, and not go as low as some middle easterners back in 2001, who didnt care when 9/11 happened and made jokes of it and celebrated, i was irate at them that day for doing that tbh. u remember this any1?

Yes I have to agree with Farrow. I thought about saying the same sort of thing myself, but I figured someone might jump on it, etc.

This is hardly the same thing. Do you see anyone celebrating? The fact of the matter is (for most of us at least) that this event, while tragic, has nothing to do with most of our lives in any way. I personally have no connection to it, and therefore I, while sympathetic towards anyone involved, do not feel any personal sense of loss or anguish. That's the way people are.

yes, i agree with you.
but i wudnt go as far as shrugging my shoulders and saying i dont care. i know this is now what you are saying, but i wud like to show sympathy just incase any1 else is reading, and maybe, JUST maybe they will feel that they are not alone grieving today, but the world is 1.. u get me? lol :D

I get you, and I think it's a considerate thing to do :)

People only tend to care if it personally affects them, the rest just makes good TV.

Wasn't that earthquake in Iran last year also on the second day of christmas?

I can't take it anymore....She hasn't sent me any word that she is ok or anything.I'm on the verge of breaking down right now....I really hope she is doing ok.I'm so worried about her...

Hell I can't even find any emoticon to show how I feel right now.

I'd say the reason most people may not feel so sad for the people who died today in this tragic event is because it doesn't effect them, and maybe it isn't so close to home.

However, the September 11th attacks effected (I still need to learn affected/effected uses :| ) nearly the whole world, and still is.

At the end of the day, this natural disaster won't change my everyday life in anyway really. Perhaps maybe Insurance rates could get hurt in some areas of the world, but I doubt it because of the "Act of God" clause in most insurance contracts.

However, I still feel bad for all those people, especially if I think in terms of "What if it was me who lost someone close?"

Who is it? Where is she supposed to be?

A girl I'm really close to.She's in Malaysia currently for a job (shes danish tho)...Like near Kula Lumpor or however you spell it.Since her job (director type of person) takes her across the country for places to setup site to do tv commercials she could be anywhere. Also she has to take those clients who request them to do the commercials (like say citi bank or Olay) out places to show them where they want to do the commericals.

Kinda confusing...We usually talk on a daily basis but we didn't talk yesterday and it worries me.

This is a horrible tragic event, and my thoughts and sympathies go out to those who have families and love ones involved in the incidents.

To all those who don't care: This is at least 3 times worse than September 11th, in terms of death count.

Edit: I have visited this kind of area of the world before and it makes me kind of angry that people would comment that they don't care and "at least it didn't happen to USA or another one of my nation's business partners."

Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't give you the right to be brash and inconsiderate. My advice is, if you don't care, please keep it to yourself. Maybe, it's just possible some halflife2.net forumers from that part of the world died today in this incident. Have some empathy and compassion, please.

I hope you hear from your girl soon Tr0n, I'm sure she will be ok though. I think only the immediate coastal areas in Malaysia were affected, she will most likely be in a safe place. Hope she is safe and well.

That is not good, but good at the same time... that means there was a pressure release and another one of the same magnitude will not happen for a long time.. Lives lost is the shitty part..
