Every year our town puts on a little two week party on the ice (biggest in-land lake in Michigan) called Tip-Up Town. Basically, tens-of-thousands of down-staters come up, get drunk and ride snowmobiles all day and night. They have a bunch of stuff to do like a mini-carnival on the ice, lazer tag, a beer tent, races, polar bear dipping, etc. This drunken party started today.

Yesterday, there was no snow, what so ever. But, to the delight of locals and down-staters alike, the "snow gods" looked apon us and gave us 8+ inches of snow during the span on one night. Insane. I've never seen such a dump of snow before nor have I witnessed any better timing than this.

Bloody hell, that's even snowy-er than the snowy-est Scots snowfall I've ever seen. :O

What is 'bear dipping'? Do you dip bears in a fondue pot then eat them?

That's nothing. Last year, we had 2+ feet of snow dumped on us overnight. THREE SEPARATE TIMES.

And this year, it's 60 degrees outside... in the middle of winter. Crazy f*cking boston weather.

Polar bear dipping is where drunks take their shirt and pants off, and jump into a hole cut into the ice. They come out blue. Not almost-blue, but navy-****ing-blue. It's quite funny to watch.

That's so unfair... :(
All our snow melted in like a day >_<
Hopefully we should get some soon though, usually hits us around feburary time.
heres to hoping!

We rarely get snow, and when we do it's only a few inches.

Still, a few years ago we got 18" overnight. That was awesome.

We had two huge snow-falls in November/December. The first one was 6-8 inches, and it was bitterly cold. A high of 5 or 10 F was normal then. Right after that snow melted all the way, we had another snow storm that dumped another 6-8 inches. Again, it was friggin cold, but not as much.

Ever since, it's been really warm.

The worst winter storm I can remember was several years back, when 3-4 inches of ice appeared on everything. So much fun it was...

Meh, Idaho got crapped on worse. Especially because i live in a higher elevation.

Good stuff, snow = awsome. Sucks that where I live it's 45 F right now...unusually hot weather ftl. :(

Haha. Worst I've seen was 3? No...4 feet overnight. That was a long time ago though. We average 120+ inches a year. Past couple years we've gotten between 170-180.

I heard that Russia is experiencing a terrible freeze right now.

I love snow. We got some snow down here too last night (or the night before that...). Just 10 cm (~3.9 inches) or so.

Any swede in here remember the winter of '95? I think it was '95 but damn. I will never forget that day... we got about 40 inches of snow in about a day! Talk about chaos.... no school that day :D

Yeh -30° Celsius :|
Never been so cold since a decade over there.
Here in Belgium it's been the warmest since we've begun our readings (some 80 years ago)

I always found it humorous how cities down south would shut down with 2 inches of snow. It takes at least six here for schools to close.

Well down in the south not everything is so well prepared to counter such weather.

Costal area of southern england, ain't seen snow settle here for about 8 years or more.
Shame because i love to trek through snow.

you live in NY right? (iirc) if so yeah school districs here in NY need tons of snow before they will close..which sux

Same. The schools only close if it's icy. If it's just snow the busses will still make their pick-ups.

Man, schools close so easily here. It's great. We had a snowday our first day back from Christmas break... and we didn't even get any snow!

<3 Belmont.

The snow in Sweden is like that every winter :)

I moved to Italy though...15 years of that snow really makes you suffer. So i dont know how this winter was

Same. We had the first day off, a delay the second day because of ice (I was "sick" that day), so my first week back from vacation consisted of a Thursday and a Friday. The schools here rock. It usually only takes about 3-4 inches of snow to close them.

When I lived in Minnessota, it was ridiculous. We'd get 7+ inches and not get a delay. The three years I lived there, I think I only had one snow day. Insane.

that sucks...they said 7 inches for flint and we got like 1 inch and it rained most of the night :(

Yeah. Back in Wisconsin, the rule was you had to have a minimum of two feet of snow for a snow day. No joke.

We've not had ANY accumulation this year.

It's so freaking depressing. It's been 50-70 degrees ALL FREAKING WINTER!!!

I hate this state.

Damn it! Why!!?? Here in Canada, (especially western Canada) it should be snowing lots. But it's not. We got like 4 millimeters last night...and that's our first time we seen snow in about 2 months. I miss the big snow falls. Your lucky man.

Ive never even seen snow down here in Australia.

We just dont get it,apart from in the mountains down south. :(
