I dont flame people for carrying out messages that have been spread all over the net, but I do ask people to think..

Im talking about this whole 23/26th november release..
If the game is gold as we speak, why would any human being on EARTH hold back the game 8 weeks, until end of november?
Thats just stupid..
Some people seem to take these rumours pretty seriously and I wonder why?
Once it goes gold, it will definitely be in stores 2-3 weeks after that! this could mean that the game is available to buy in the middle of october. Im not saying that the game is gold since no one really knows, but why trust this, since it´s not likely at all?
If the game is not gold, no one, not even Valve and VUG knows WHEN it will be.

The fact that you disagree with it doesn't make it false. Likewise, it hasn't been confirmed as true by any "official" sources, and shouldn't be treated as such until a "Gone Gold" announcement is released. Calm down.
 
This is a funny situation. just a little above this thread is another thread called "Late November seems likely"
 
I doubt it's already Gold. I assume CS:Source is gold because that's being released next week, but HL2 could very easily still be in the RC process. We could be on the third RC for all we know.

Then why wait until the end of Novermber? Take advantage of the whole month. Oh, and the after Thanksgiving binge is pretty much only for Belk, Sears, and JCPenny type stores who have mega "Day After Thanksgiving Sales," which game stores do not participate in.

No you're wrong. Malls will be jam packed with people. EB Games, GameStop, and any other gaming stores will me filled to the max with customers buying video games for their kids. If HL2 has a big display stand around this time (something VU will market) people will snatch up the game quickly. If they release HL2 now, that big display of HL2 will be replaced by another games display come November.
 
theres more than just having no bugs to release a game. especially valve and vu-games are designing carefully when theyll get the most of it, only then theyll release. its all about green bennies

I kinda don't get it.... Your average joe-kid that asks for this game for christmas on impulse, prolly aint gonna have the computer to run it... I don't see much of a boost in sales on this one for the holiday shopping season.. This is a hardcore gamers game, It's not the Sims for PS2, or Zelda Released just in time for the kids christmas list... Anyways, It wont hurt them, but I don't think it's gonna be what pushes the sales over the edge...
 
I'm siding with the topic starter with this one, i find it very unlikely that end of November is the release date, plus the fact the fact that VALVe does not know, plus they said it will come out in the UK 3 days later then the US, when VALVe stated that they intend it to be a simultaneous world-wide release.
how can we know when the game is coming out and not VALVe? :cool:

I gotta agree on this one too... untill we get conformation I wont believe it. Why would VUG only my a statement to a few retailers and not tell valve about it.... doenst make sense. Plus I think Halo2 comes out that same week.

****ing valve. That is too late and too far away. Jesus christ I can't stand this. Why can't they declare the fuccking game gold and it only needs 3-4 weeks for reproduction which will = beginning of nov.

I agree with you Inanimate.
In fact in PC PowerPlay in Australia there is a Ad for Vampire Mascarade which uses the Source engine...in the printed ad it says November...isn't it part of their contract that they cannot release there game ahead of HL2????? So if all that is true HL2 should be out soon...Hey...they don't want to miss another Christmas Season coming around the corner! THey would need at least a month of advertising to get the sales they would like to half...and also why would VU also hold this up too late...they want the sales just as much as valve!
It will be out early November at the latest....remember doom3...once they had a date it was on teh shelves within a fortnight! So I guess if Valve has sent VU a Release Candidate then VU will (if all is OK with the Release candidate - let us not forget the CS:CZ saga!) then VU will give a date next week!! Ready for a early November release!!!
 
My guess is that Vivendi will not release HL2 until it is most profitable for them.

Take it in mind that Vivendi only makes money off store sales, so they're basically trying to get people to buy it for christmas. This means that they will release it as close to christmas as possible, with enough time to restock shelves when they empty.

And what makes this move even more stupid for VU is the fact that is you pre-order half life 2 from steam, you get to play cs:s straight away so if i was VU i would get the game ou as soon as possible
 
I guess 2 months seemed like a long time when I was teenager back in the 80's. You poor kids. Two months goes by fast as hell now.

Why blame valve? It's Vivendi that wants to "delay" it. Gabe Newell said himself (and I quote) "I can't think of any good reason not to get it into stores as quickly as possible."
Vivendi is releasing it then because they are: a) stupid b) trying to meet the "November/Christmas rush, or c) getting back at valve for their lawsuit (or something like that, I forgot the details)
Anyway, as far as I can tell Valve is blameless, It's Vivendi that's screwing us over.

It really doesnt matter wether its 2 more weeks or 8 more weve waited so long for this game and its almost here so who cares a bout a few more weeks :|
 
Because they want it now, dammit.

This lawsuit could cost Valve every penny they made off Hl2 over steam, so VU could care less how many copies they sell, if they win the lawsuit they will earn all that money.

They're basically doing what they did for cz, but before it was because cz didn't have promising numbers, now its because they stand to earn more money off a holiday release.
