Latency

I just reinstalled my os on my pc. There really is not much diffrerence then what I had before. I am running XP w sr 2, its an AMD 2100, 1gb of ram, GEForce 4200 Ti, 64mb card. I know I can do better on my vid card and processor but before my reinstall everything ran pretty good. Now since I resinstalled i am experiencing really bad latency. The latency gets worst when more and more players get on and play. I have cable for my high speed and i am having no issues with downloading. How can i troubleshoot this, I have tried playing without the firewall, without antivirus, and any other way to make it work. Can anyone siuggest what to do to clear up the latency?

All I can think of is either turn your antivirus back on and scan for some, or defrag your computer, my latency sometimes drops by 100 after a good ol' fashioned Defraggin'. But keep in mind i am on 56k, sometimes my lag drops by 100 if i close a document lol.

Oooh, I had better do that if it can lower latency. Last time I tried updating it fecked up and I had to revert, though. Didn't know it could help with gaming. Thanks for the heads up Exodus

my bro reinstalled css and his latency went from 150 to 30-50.

same thing is happening to my friend, he had to reinstall XP, b4 he had a nice low ping but now he has one that is up near 100 which isnt entirely bad but when other people talk ping gets quite high just like dial up style, tis' messed.

Did you reinstall all of your drivers and everything from windows update even the hardware section? Make sure you get everything after a reinstall (mobo,souncard,videocard sometimes NIC)
