Today I got paid and decided this would be the day to buy my 22 inch widescreeen.

So I poked around the stores here and eventually stopped at Comp USA (they had the lowest price)

Several times I tried to get the attention of the employees to give me some advice and help me out in picking between the different monitors, but no one would give me the time of day.

Constantly I got "That's not my department"
or
"I'm not clocked in"
or
"ummm, can you wait 5 minutes?" and the person would never return.

Finally I got someone to help me out, he took 15 minutes to pull the fotching monitor from the back of the store. It wasn't a backroom, it was in the same large room as everything else but theres a wall blocking the sight of the shelves of backstock. I could see it, but the guy kept picking his bum and twinking around. Finally I got it, purchased it and got the hell out of there.

When I got home, I looked for a DVI cable in the box. Didn't find one but then i looked at the manual and it states there is one included and to contact the dealer if that (or any other of the listed items) are not included. So I called and they said they'd swap me. Brought it back and walked up to the service desk.

"Ummmm, go in the back and get a new one"
Wtf? Someone else get me a new one, I'm not employed by Comp USA. But the lazy bastard wouldn't move his feet. So I walked back there. Got the same guy that previously got it and explained the situation. Instead of walking back and getting a new one, he disappeared for 10 minutes. He came back and said

"I looked at LG's website and it doesn't include a DVI cable. Sorry."

I pulled out the manual and showed him. It stated right there in text that it is to include one.

He shrugged his shoulders and walked off....

What the hell happened to customer service and hard working people? Is it just me or are more than half of all people in retail are lazy assholes? I work at a grocery store and would be fired for cutting corners or not helping out a customer. And rightfully so.

I pride myself on being a hardworker in almost everything I do. I can't stand it when I run into these lazy tards. :flame:

So the question is, do you honestly consider yourself a consistently hard worker?

I've been working like a donkey this week ... done 48 hours this week ... thats 6 days straight.

I used to be lazy, but you don't get much in life unless you go out and work for it. If you work hard, you can play hard.

I've been working a lot lately - 53 hours last week - and I usually work pretty hard, but sometimes there's just nothing to do and I don't go LOOKING for something to do.

If it has to be done, I do it.

Im at Uni in my first year (only a month or so to go though). Im an expected slacker. First year rules - low amounts of work, high amounts of student nights and 10mb bband in halls...***t it im sorted haha.

Just wait till the 3rd year ... no money, mountains of work, and no sleep. At all. O procrastination, thou art a cruel mistress.

I take pride in working hard, going the extra mile and accomplishing things. I want to leave a track record of ever-growing success behind me, not just sleepwalk into death being yet another Average Joe.
Having said that, I'm pretty fed up with life at the moment and I'm not really sure why. Hard graft, career and money alone don't bring happiness.

Over here 90% percent of our population can be defined in the last option (no I'm not kidding). That would probably explain the lousy state our country is in LOL

haha That sounds like some of Compusa's I've been to.
Sucks when employees don't know how to take care of a customer. Instead they try to avoid customers that are not in their area.

I used to work at a Compusa. Luckly our store was not filled with people who would blow off a customer. Although I do remember running everywhere. Maybe they were and I was picking up their slack. :\
If I was stopped while running around for a customer (repair center, customer service, to the backrooms) I'd tell them I was with a customer but I would see if I could get someone to the area (intercom).

Our store was pretty idle with some really busy peaks. Which meant most of the time customers complained that they were being asked if they needed help while browsing maybe 5 times by different employees. Of course when those busy times did randomly hit they complained that there was no one to assistance them since 2 of guys working that area were dragged else where by other customers.

I like working hard, my hands are callused (sp?) from working alot (laborious work). It makes me feel like I've done my share for the day, I used to live with a brother and sister, we'd always take turns doing certain things, and whenever I did something I felt like I wouldn't have to do it again for atleast 2 more days (I do work, bro does work, sis does work, then back to me). I'd get it done as soon as possible, too, because when it's done I don't have to worry about it.

I guess the habit just stuck, because I'm always doing anything I can find to do, and once everything is done, I don't have to worry about doing anything later. My house is amazingly clean because of this, and my yard kicks all other yards asses. This weekend I'm using a hand-pushed roto-tiller to roto-till 3 acres in my back yard, it'll be sweet when it's done.

That doesn't go to say I'm the happiest person ever when doing work, in fact I like doing things alone, because when someones with me helping or something, I get pissy, and am mean to everyone, after 20 minutes after I'm done, I'll be nice and happy again, though.

I procrastinate obsessively. I read this thread and thought about posting a few times before i finally worked up the effort.

No wonder you had such shit service

Pick your stores better

It depends. In terms of education and career, I'm a hard worker and put my upmost into it.

However in the home and in casual life, I'm the king of procrastination.

Do I consider myself lazy for the time being? I guess. BTW, I'm unemployed and underage. But if I did have a job, then I would definately do my best at it and put full effort into it (not that working at the local supermarket in a few years is oh so hard, arduous work but you get the idea). I might not be hurting anybody sitting at my computer for a dozen hours but it's a different story when you're employed because you obviously have an obligation.

On second thought, I might not be entirely "lazy." I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) which drives me to do things ranging from checking/rereading my posts (this extends to pronouncing each syllable/letter in a word in synchronization to nodding my head) to biting the inside of my mouth, pulling the hairs out of my eyebrows and eyelashes, the way I sit down in my chair. Sometimes I would go out of my way to redo a certain thing because "I didn't like the way it was done." Although I'm not certain if that would negate the possibility of me being lazy.

If only I put my effort into more important things...

I'm usually a very hard worker, or maybe stubborn. If something needs to be done, it'll get done. I just spent a few hours digging up Bermuda grass and now my hand is blistered and cramping...

I think normally I'm a pretty hard worker. At my current shit job, as a dishwasher, I often come in to find that some things (bowls, utensils, plates, strainers, etc.) haven't been cleaned properly, so I'll put them all through again, always make sure my area is cleaned, sweep a couple times a night, etc. Basically everyone else there cuts corners like crazy. One guy doesn't even wash the plates we get sometimes, I've seen him get ones back that are *almost* clean, so he takes the cloth that we dry the WASHED plates with and wipes down the dirty one, getting shit all over our drying cloth, which I then have to rinse out before drying other dishes. Then he bitches me out for "not working hard enough" or some shit, so I go and take out the garbage, and then I come back inside and nothing's been done.

Basically I don't really like my job but I do it anyway because I need money, and I just make damn sure I don't do a halfassed job.

I can understand if you're ill or if you have special circumstances, but I don't think most of us do.

BTW this monitor is freaking HUGE.

I'm looking left to right when playing DoD

Complain to someone. Make the effort!

where i work, its very much a team effort so if you get people slacking, they become proper unpopular. i don't see the point in slacking though. its unfair to those who do pull their weight

All I have to say is I can be a very hard worker, but I lack motivation.

I have special circumstances, and that circumstance is that I prefer to be a burden on society.

I had a similar experience working at a CompUsa. Our managers really pushed us to get those stupid extra warranties, and they gave us some nice incentives beyond the extra commission you get from selling them. Usually this meant that every customer got attention. And yeah, usually they get angry about being hassled all the time if they are just browsing around.

Did your manager do that "10 foot rule" crap? Anytime a customer came within 10 feet of you you need to say "Hi, my name is Sean. Can I help you find anything today?" And you cant ****ing say it any differently, and it doesnt matter if someone else asked them if they needed help, if they got near you, you had to do it or get yelled at if your manager saw you not do it.

Despite everyone trying to help the customers, everyone working there were still dicks. The only reason they helped people was because they wanted extra money from extended warranties. I usually helped people for a long time, explaining things clearly and saying why such and such product is different and better/worse than another. Other employees would "plant the seed" for the warranty with every word they said.

**** those warranties. My boss actually told me that if a customer didnt want the warranty for a camera or anything that we dont keep on the floor, to tell them that we were out of stock of it. That way their percentages would look awesome since every camera sold also had a extended warranty. Man, I really hated my managers there, all of them except the tech guy were douche bags. The tech guy was really nice and reasonable though. **** everyone else there.

I've never worked in retail, but quite frankly if I can get paid the same for not doing my job, then screw the customers.

Yeah, the managers referred to the 10 foot rule. Seemed to happen a lot when we had many who were browsing with no intention to buy. Managers just looked at the tickets to traffic ratio and thought we weren't getting to people.

Denying sales without a warranty? ouch
We would often try to make deals to get the warranty. Free bag, maybe $20 off of a high margin item etc. We had a couple really good sales guys in our PC section so our store numbers usually were pretty good. Everyone else felt comfortable selling the replacement plans but not the repair stuff. Mostly because they used the plans themselves all the time when their stuff was 'broken'. Even for customers, we became pretty lenient on what we would honor as broken under the plan. Was nice when I needed to upgrade something. D:

Not sure if they still offer the same replacement plans. They were nice even at face value for some items. We sold tons on mice, keyboards, headsets and game controllers.

Well, I just spent the whole of today and yesterday lying in bed pretending to sleep, so last option for me. But then if I actually had a job it might be a different story, I can't imagine myself as a total slacker in that situation... despite the fact I haven't had a job in years :)

Next week I finally move out of home, then we'll see how things go.

Wrestling has taught me to cherish the moments where you can sit on your ass and just do NOTHING.

I often work 7 days a week. I get paid a set (low) wage.

/me is heading into work now

TBH, I'm a lazy mofo but I will work hard when I want to. It's usually to do with my motivation. My current job is shit so have no enthusiasm to try and do it properly.

I work hard. I also work at staples, and no, I'm not going to help you if I'm not clocked in. Period. I'm there to make money, and I'm not going to listen to some crotchety old woman with sand in her vagina bitch about her computer for half an hour if I'm not getting paid to do it.
That being said, once I am on the clock, I'll offer some of the friendliest customer service you can get.

@the former compusa employees:
Wow, your management sucks. Denying sales sans warranties? Would never happen where I work. Staples motto shouldn't be "That was easy", it should be "we're bending over, stick it in us."

I'm lazy at anything I'm not interested in doing. But when I do something, I do it right.

You should have hit them. With a sword. Fired from a gun.

It really matters. If i'm enthusiastic about something, i'll work my ass off. I love getting a sweat. But if I don't care to much... yeah go screw yourself.
