LCDs: how important is the type of input?

I noticed that most 17" lcds (that are in my price range, 19"s are not even considered) come with a typical analog connector, no DVI. how much does this matter, are the differences significant between the two or what? i'd have to spend like 100$ more for a DVI on a 17" from what I see. thanks for your advice.

btw i'm currently looking at the LG L1710SK. anyone is familiar with it?

You will want the DVI connection. The video is Digital while being proccessed on the video card, converted to Analog and then back to Digital on an LCD. With the DVI it stays Digital the entire time.

It is much better and sharper with DVI. Do you have a DVI on your Video Card?

I have a LCD monitor that is strait VGA connecter, Would connecting it to my DVI port using a DVI-VGA connector be better than connecting it strait to my video card's VGA slot?

It still would convert it from Digital to VGA (Analog) and back to DVI (Digital). Just instead of the card converting it to VGA, the adapter would.

i have a DVI output- my card is an ati 9800pro128 (talk about a stupid idea, buying a card when you have a shit PC just cause it's on sale. now i hate myself cause i can't use it yet ). but, damn. them DVI shits is expensive, but thanks dude. i'll look at that.

I think the newer LCDs with VGA have improved, so don't shoot yourself in the foot just yet. It's just the Digital DVI connection would be perfered.

i don't think 200$ more than what i had planned for a screen will kill me.
I realised it was a better idea since i plan on buying a VEG and using my LCD to watch DVDs and play PS2, and sell my crap old TV to my mother or something . a 17" would seem pretty limited, whereas a 19" will do just fine. ain't got that much room for bigger anyways.

oh... would you happen to know if this setup is possible: the LCD connected straight to the Radeon via the DVI, and the VEG connected to the LCD with the additional analog input. any chance they confuse each other out? i think not, as long as the veg is Off when i use the PC and vice versa...

ok nevermind, it seems that when you have both inputs on a monitor it lets you choose between the two in the OSD. sweet stuff.
