Leak confirms Kotor 3 will be MMO (Boo, Hiss)

Haha KOTOR there isn't a chance in hell I'm going to play it anyway.

Oh God... does anyone remember Star Wars Galaxies? Probably the worst MMO I've ever played next to Matrix Online.

What the **** is everyone's beef with SWG?

It's fantastic for an MMO, granted, I've yet to try it with the "changes" Sony made to it.

Eh. You know it's bad when they turn everyone into a Jedi just to get people to play it.

Oh...
You mean they completely removed the long-questing rite of initiation thing?

Wow, okay, I'll stop getting into the defensive then.

When it first came out and was full of bugs it was the shit. I remember back when the combat medic could throw an area of effect poison and disease further than people could shoot. I used to go into enemy cities and run around killing everyone for hours. It was the most fun ever. I was unstoppable hehe.

As for KOTOR I have a feeling it will be an epic MMO as long as we don't have to pay extra for it. I think it could be an awful lot of fun.

Even if by some unlikely miracle they don't charge a monthly fee, I would still prefer it to be SP. This news is extremely disappointing. I was hoping for the next evolution of Mass Effect but with KOTOR's setting and story (and hopefully a good lightsaber combat system) ... instead we're probably going to get another boring MMO with no variety and pointless grinding.

They all fall victim to the same trap due to the nature of the genre ... they need people to keep playing month after month so that they keep making money ... therefore the gameplay is structured around inciting mindless addiction rather than having fun or telling a good story.

I couldn't express myself any better than smwScott, so I'll just repeat what he said.

they need people to keep playing month after month so that they keep making money

Why haven't more games tried the Guild Wars type setup so there's no monthly fees? Has GW died financially?

Ugh. I don't want to pay per month.

Sorry, no buy for me.

My roommate did just buy KOTOR 2 yesterday for $20 at Fry's, so I'll play it later when he's done.

GW's pretty massive... and it's online... and it's an RPG.
I don't get why people don't classify it as an MMO.

What exactly qualifies as an MMO?

yeah, I don't get why you only can be an mmo if you have monthly fee's either

The traditional answer is "server fees etc." but obviously profit is a factor. It does take a certain amount of subscribers to break even though. For example, Blizzard are quite plainly rolling in it with WoW, whereas Vanguard allegedly has literally two people maintaining and rolling out content for it.

Because guild wars is pretty much like Diablo 2, cept instead of chatrooms you get the cities which are pretty much just fancy chatrooms. The fact that you can solo pretty almost all of the missions in the game kind of takes away from the whole Massive Multiplayer part of it.

Sweet looking forward to this I just hope they make it a good MMO!

GW is nothing like Diablo 2 at all. :p

And yeah, funny though... for a game called GUILD Wars you can basically just do the entire game by yourself.
