Leak just a convenient excuse to postpone?

If the rumors that HL2 has been postponed until 2004 are true, did the leak just give Valve an easy out to explaining why the game wouldn't be ready for Nov/Dec?

In other words, was Valve planning to postpone to April 2004 anyway? If so, they wouldn't make this announcement until Nov~Dec. The leak and the beta may have just sped up this announcement timetable.

It doesn't take 4 extra months to rewrite some cd-key algorithms, and a few scripts. I guess if the programmers at valve took a 4 month vacation starting now, the 7 month postponement may be justified.

BTW, Max Payne 2 (which uses the same Havoc physics engine HL2 uses) comes out next Wednesday, the 15th. So there's at least something to satiate my and my 9800's hunger for DX9 games.

makes you think....well....sorta anyways....well....not really.....MP2 WILL PWNXOR11!1!

There is no reason to postpone HL2, in fact the post-poning is killing valve and HL2.

People want to run HL2 (game, demo or benchmark) on their systems to see how the most anticipated game of the year (or 2004) is doing on their PC and to experince HL2.

Of course the game as the benchmark have been delayed and there is still no word on the playable demo... people are sick of waiting, they want to play HL2 now!

Valve is just too stupid to realize this, why on earth won't they simply release the official benchmark (which BTW is not affected by the code changes which now have to be made due to the leak) and everybody will stop downloading the beta and start their official benchmark download. This would be the only way to stop the beta from spreading and not threatening websites to remove links to website... it's already too late for that.

Yes..... it wasn't ready and Valve sucks ass at communicating

there is no way a company would release the entire game because it wasnt ready...makes no sense

Read the post, not just the topic title, before you post.

o woops :p

i dont think it was an easy way out, hopefully they still will release it this year

Yeap the leak is a convenient scapegoat so that valve ca save face. If you want even more conspiracy theories you could speculate that valve released the dodgy beta and unfinished code on purpose.

Yes. Valve released TF2 on purpose too. Because they were going to announce that the release for that was delayed as well... no wait.. there isn't a release date for TF2. Hmmmmmm maybe they ACTUALLY WERE hacked and stuff was stolen?

Then Valve release CS:CZ because it was going to be delayed.. no wait, it went gold the same day it was leaked! Hmmmmmmmmmm maybe they ACTUALLY WERE hacked and stuff was stolen?
