Sorry just got home and saw this leak info, if someone posted this already sorry(only looked through the first page for somethign similar)

If part of the source code has been leaked, then that means most likley the other parts of it are out there which sucks. But i believe this will probably speed up the release of it very quickly if anything else of source is leaked.

My guess:

Someone was at a official valve event, somehow snuck in or saw noone around and started to transfer the files onto a disk before anyone came around, but he was interuppted in the process yeilding only part of the code.

Umm...if you leave me with your PC for 15 minutes with noone around i could fit all info on your HD onto something that would fit into my jacket pocket...its not that far fetched.

Since when is source code required to be installed on demo machines to show off a demo?! Ever thought of the idea that they just installed the binaries on the demo machines to run?

sorry guy, this is [gunna delay/already has delayed] the release. The game is not coming out any time soon.

i just woke up a few mins ago, and whats the reason it would be delayed because this got out? can someone enlighten me?

I shouldnt have said "valve events" what i meant was playtesters in general, People are playing the actuall game everyday, singleplayer and multiplayer, all it takes is someone to step away from the PC that has it for 15-20 minutes and they would have it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the game come out in 2004 now.

5 years worth of Valves work is out for the hackers/aspiring game makers to use in a matter of minutes.

The online community will be plagued with more cheats that CS ever had running at one time, and Valve will lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in liscening fees which would help fund their company and the production of Half Life 3.

This is no good.

Wow when did i mention that it wasnt delayed?..All im saying is the game is pretty much done and the only reasons that are most likley holding it up

STEAM
Translating to other languages
Gabe said himself they are just playtesting to find out what people dont like and they want to change it.

i doubt valve would release it later because of this. with steam they have a better grip on cheaters then they did with Won (notice i did not say have control of,,,cause cheaters are still out there) but like i said...they have a tighter grip then with won.net and i think they will cut their relativly minimal losses and still release once they finish fixing the issues with steam. delaying further only means further loss. imho

dude....did the DOOM3 LEAK speed up the DOOM3 release? NO it delayed to 2004 and hardly any new info

where's the logic in this speeding up the release????

der..umm...because if the rest of it gets leaked and we have an actuall game then valve is losing tons of money by people downloading it for free. Yes some people will do it either way, but if a leaked full version is out there somewhere people who swear never to download it probably will as time builds up and they see everyone else playing it.

Hmm..could any hardware handle doom3 back then?. THe main reason the there taking there sweet ass time on the game is because the hardware aint up to standards yet. There are games out there being developed right now that probably cant be played for another couple years because hardware is holding them back.

It's not logical to assume that a 'leak' would delay the release at all. Face it... what they have there if it is real is not what will finally be on the CDs.

this would most certainlty NOT have the game rleeased sooner, but the opposite.

ATTENTION, ITS OFFICIAL:

this leak is either REAL, or its FAKE. it will either DELAY halflife2's release, or it will NOT delay it. so hopefully you will all rest easy with this new information. thank you

I could care less.... half-life 2 is a drop in my vast ocean of interest right now... all thanks to the delay :-(

I'm gonna go play my other games now... crying a little, but trying to remain strong!

:cheese:

since its fake it wont affect the release dates.

since when does hl2 code include HL1 code and Quake code?

What's the point of delaying it? I know, it somehow seems logical. But is there any actual reason?

Perhaps the cheaters, but I don't think that that would put such a strain on the remaining dev time.

That code is in there cause its demonstrating how much half-life 2 owns those two titles in every aspect... There are little events in the game for humor... like when you walk down a corridor and a blocky scientist runs right past you suddenly, followed by the blocky quake guy shooting his grenade launcher at him.
