I don't see why everyones' so pissed about the Half Life 2 "leak". I mean really, someone leaked Doom 3 and did anyone care? NO!!
This will be tough for Valve, but I don't think they're all going to die a horrible death and be ejaculated on(lol). I don't think ID Software cares that someone leaked a few maps from their game. I think that Valve should just get something, or anything out there for gaming sustinance, and maybe the hackers won't steal anything else.

ARGH

Its COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

The leaked alpha of DOOM3 was fine. It was like a Buggy demo.(Inever had it, just going on what I have heard)
However. The leaked source means that valve are open to law suits purhaps and they will have to recode certain parts of the game most likely. In order to stop cheaters and also there is a possibilty of the hackers getting credit card details of steam. There is all sorts of other reasons. But I cant be arsed

I had the DOOM3 demo, and it sucked. It's basically the same thing except without the lawsuits lol.

Had Doom3 been nearly as popular as HL2 you would have seen the same reaction.

Plus the D3 demo was leaked, HL2 was STOLEN. Big, big difference.

now hold on a sec...what about the Half Life 2 "experience" in Tokyo? was that not a demo?

What's that got to do with this?

As far as I know they just showed some E3 stuff (as in the same damn movies all over again) in Tokyo.

It wasn't stolen. The source code was also leaked.

If it's stolen, why does Valve still have it? :dork:

oh, my bad..sorry i didn't hear they're wasn't a demo. I was out doing something else rather than sitting around wasting my precious life on a GAME

I think the "leakers" did us a favor by GIVING US WHAT WAS RIGHTFULLY OURS ON SEPTEMBER 30TH!!! And now look what Valve has gotten into.

Most of the stuff I was going to tell you was already mentioned above by other people.

One thing however, that remains as a fact, is that the DooM III alpha was relatively more complete than the HL2 Beta is. Sure, it wasn't optimized, but not much of the textures were "missing."

I agree.

That's because this isn't technically a Beta. It's a compiled version of the source code and some of the content such as maps and textures. This was all taken separately and put together outside of Valve, so it isn't their "beta." But yes, Doom III alpha did seem more complete, but maybe this hacker didn't gather all of the HL2 content whether he thinks he did or not.

As sublime rightly points out this HL2 Beta has been stitched together from the stolen source code and the E3 Levels (thats why it's buggy as hell). The leaked Doom 3 Alpha was actually written specifically for a particular expo and optimised for the particular machine/setup it was running on (can't recall which) and subsequently the code was stolen and then distributed.

Yeah, this thread won't be around long.. In the future, Sublime, you might want to start a thread by knowing what you're talking about. :p
