Valve Software have revealed that Left 4 Dead 2 has sold over 2 million retail copies in the last two weeks. Sales to date for the sequel are more than double the original game. Doug Lombardi said:

Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press. Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders

Lombardi also mentioned that the news for the first downloadable content is coming very soon. Midnight Riders anyone?

That's really great to hear. Yay L4D2!

Midnight Riders? I'm gonna rock out with my Ox out!

See what I did there?

I wonder how many Steam sales they made D:

Seems that the L4D2 boycott was very nearly as effective as that for MW2.

Lol Boycotts.

Great news for Valve :) Looking forward to seeing what the DLC will be :)

Sucks to be those that thought L4D2 was gonna flop.

No seriously, I hate you.

So does that mean there have been 1 million PC retail sales? Or could there be a significant amount of non-Gold Xbox sales?

Either way if you factor in Steam sales (which I'm willing to bet make up a large percentage of PC sales) it makes for a impressive start.

That is impressive, now give me info about that DLC and an EP3 trailer in christmas present. All I want for christmas is THAT!

Can't wait for Jake's final blog post before the DLC starts. All of the Riders look kind of same-ish, so I wonder how Valve will deal with that.

omg...i thought after L4D2 was out they'd just leave a couple people in charge of updating it and move over to developing/finish Ep3. but NOOOOOOOO! gotta milk that cash cow!

Hopefully they will hire more people now to finish p 3. Although unlikely.

Free content = milking cash cow... ?

still doesn't affect my point about them still working on L4D2...maybe not as much though, i can only hope.

All right, let's go over this again: L4D2 is being worked on by the people of Turtle rock studio, the ones who were making L4D before they were bought by VALVE. The team working on Ep3 is not the same team as the one working on L4D2 (or TF2, or Steam, or CS:S, etc...).

that explains why they've been skirting any questions about Ep3 since work on L4D2.

oh wait...it doesn't

listen i've been around hl2.net just as long as you have, i know turtle rock. i remember that old teaser vid of L4D when they were using the old character models. in fact if you ask me i liked those better, but back to the subject.

you might be right about the Turtle Rock employees being the sole workers on L4D content, but Valve are having to work with them on integrating it into Steam, talking with advertisers, talking to people about shipping....maybe i should just shut up

Because if product A is going to come out in three months, and product B is going to come out in eight months, it's bad business strategy to hype product B. This is called the Osborne effect. They're still focused on promoting L4D2 right now with the DLC campaign they're bringing out.
