Valve has revealed the first Left 4 Dead 2 television commercial which is created in collaboration by Valve and GameStop. This TV Spot highlights the exclusive in-game melee weapon (baseball bat) offered to those who pre-order the game at GameStop.[br]

It will start airing across North America this week. Watch this commercial on our channel on YouTube.

Amazingly... CRAPPY! Seriously... TV Spot #1 for Left 4 Dead was awesome...
I was expecting they would get the best scenes from that leaked video on the TV ads or something... Maybe the whole video... But this...

Its only a gamestop ad for the preorder, dont take it so seriously!

Haha
'Their oppoents are a hungry bunch. '
'Yeah their intensity is infectious!'

was leaked a couple of days ago, but good to have an official feed

Yeah it was leaked but Valve released an official press release on this tonight. Probably due to a partnership they have set up with the advertising company & GameStop to promote it to the gaming sites out there.

Unfortunately, despite the days which have passed since this has leaked, it hasn't matured like a fine wine, but is as memorably cheesy and poor as first time I saw it. Lets just pretend only the trailer happened.

A collaboration between Valve and Gamestop? Oh, please - the worst kind of collaborative advertising. A poor and most distasteful move on Valve's part. An in-game bonus for those who pre-order at Gamestop? What happened to the ubiquity of a product? I expect this from the likes of Gamestop, but not Valve.

The advert is also cheesy, and not in a way that syncs up with the tongue-in-cheek nature of L4D's general embrace of such B-movie culture. It's very silly.

It's not exclusive to gamestop, most major retail outlets have it, as does the steam preorder. Plus the item spawns for everybody in the server aslong as one player has the bonus. Its just general marketing fluff that seems to get used allot more lately.

I am sure there is a whiteboard somwhere in an EA office with a graph that shows an increase in preorders when exclusive content is involved, with a nice drawing of a carrot in orange magic marker.

it was a cheesy ad. i've seen halo ads with more desire than that

"But samon it suppose 2 be like dat cuz its funny, durk durk dur"

Even the trailer was painful "Kill all son's of bitches"

"Hur but it supposed to be that way cuz it's suppose 2 be like a cheesey movie"

Agreed on the consensus that it was a bad commercial. Whoever voiced it was pretty off-putting too.

Also agreed with Samon on the exclusive item thing. Kinda surprised me when I read that.

Uh, most of Valve's adverts suck, but that was actually Vavle's greatest advert. It was amazing when it first came out.

I remember I got chills, well done commercial.

Speaking of Vavle's adverts and such, they were never very good with commercial adverts or trailers geared towards their fans. The only trailers I recall being really good were two or three ones for Episode 2. I don't think they even did another Portal Trailer after the very old teaser.

Ah, the good old days when seeing DOG jump at a Strider made us pee our pants.

I should warn you, it does get worse.

EA's localized advertising for L4D2 is pretty shocking.. at first I thought the german L4D/CSS crossover ad was as odd as it could get.. then I saw this british viral ad they supposedly commisioned, and now I feel a tad ill.

The above is said to be from EA via a third-party ad agency.

It was a poor advertisement. Saying "its teh wurst commershull evar!" like someone already did is a little much, but yes it wasnt a "good" commercial. I don't want valve to drive into the comedy genre too much with l4d. this isn't TF2 where valve can come up with the most silly idea (jar of piss) and still be true to the theme of the game. yes l4d is a lighthearted zombie shooter, but its still nevertheless a zombie shooter. Dont overdue it on the humor!

Does it suprise anyone that because we are critisizing a commercial valve did, hool decides to bring up every valve commercial and come up with a reason to whine about it? Hmm, probably not. And yea hool, valve should do what bungie did with the "marketing-dependent" franchise Halo and spend 10-15 million dollars for a 30 second TV spot... :dork:

I dont get why their Meet The videos are near-pixar quality shorts, and yet their commercials are... this...

I just figure if Valve is spending $25 mil for L4D 2 advertising, then they better not suck at doing the ads like they did last time, and the time before that, etc. http://store.steampowered.com/news/2907/
