Well there is the final answer. The recently announced Left 4 Dead Downloadable Content (L4D DLC) will be delivered to Xbox 360 and PC gamers free of charge.
Due for release this spring, the DLC for 2008's best-selling new game property on the PC and Xbox 360, is dubbed the L4D Survival Pack and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode (Death Toll, Dead Air). A Critic's Choice Edition of the game will be heading to retail stores this spring, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

yeah.. for PC I'd expect the DLC to be free.. always has been and probably always will be.. but for xbox.. this i have never heard of..

I thought it was gonna be sold for Microsoft Points.

Where does it say the Xbox *DLC* will be free? By the look of that statement, it's only 'free' if you buy the Critic's Choice Edition.

Good news for you Xbox players. Was expected for PC version though :p

Did any one really expect anything different from Valve?

for PC.. no.. they always give their downloadable content for free.. but M$ usually demands money for it..

Am i the only one dieing to know how Valve convinced Microsoft to let them charge for no money on Xbox?

YES! THIS NEWS HAS JUST MADE MY DAY!!!

Until the TF2 dlc comes to the 360 and Valve announces more dlc for l4d.

I figured Valve and MS would find some way to make the 360 L4D DLC free after the conflict between what Valve wanted to do and what MS would let them do for TF2. A deal would have been worked out pre-release.

technically we are getting additions, but im sure if custom maps are put on live in the future then im sure you will have to add them.

why would people want to pay for versus mode on the 2 maps they already have and for a new game mode?

if it was not free for the pc a LOT of people would get really pissed with valve.

And why the hell is it called 'DLC'? They are turning everything a lot console-like. PC games always had updates... Console games have DLC. But now, they are calling the pc updates DLC? That's just nonsense. CALL IT UPDATE!

It's Downloadable Content. It's still accurate, numbnuts.

I don't care if it's free for 360, I just want the damn thing to come out!

Maybe they threatened to stop releasing their games on the 360.

Or threatened to make steam and source work well on OSX :p

But guys, it's not free, remember? Because you had to pay $50 for the game already. So it's like some sort of amusement park... with non-free rides... and something something.

Yeah nah I think it's 'It's not free because if an amusement park was free you'd still have to buy L4D to ride the rides, so it wouldn't be free like the DLC is free'.

Survival sounds a bit weird.

But if you don't buy the free DLC then you can't play L4D in the theme park because it's closed and haunted.

Have any more actual details about Survivor been released yet? I'm hearing a few things about holding out against hordes and I've seen a few posts over the 'net from people who appear to know exactly what it is.

Valve may have taken to subsidising the DLC, just to make it free for its consumers and make the 360 owners not feel left out. I.e. Valve pay M$ monies for every DLC accessed, but in return Valve get the sort of customer confidence they have on the PC on the Xbox.

Well, that's just silly. I'm not buying these free L4D rides from the DLC in the theme park anymore! :arms:
