It is a well known fact that some people have bought the game in a shop around the globe.

Nowhere on the box does it say you will only be able to play it on the 16th.

So legally how is this possible.
For someone that hasnt followed hl2´s history wont know about the 16th activation on steam, paid got home and not been able to play it.

I know for a fact in the EU the old "buyers beware" has died a few decades ago.

If this has been discussed please erase.

Valve created a product that wouldn't work until the 16th. Stores weren't supposed to sell it until the 16th.

If stores sold it early, it becomes their responsibility, not Valve's.

But it should have been on the box im sure of it.And vivendi has nothing to do with steam and the activation.

it's the stores at fault because they ave been given a specific date to sell on, selling prior to this date isn't legal so it shouldn't have even come up.

agreed, retailers fault now valve is able to make sure that it doesn't get unlocked before the street date

if the customers are bad they should be mad at the store that was selling it early, not valve

I dont care if its valve or the stores fault.. if a product is for sale and you buy it you get ripped off if you have to wait 4 days until you can play it. As a consumer when i buy food i dont ask if its hazardous, i just asume it isnt. Same with games i asume they will work as soon as its installed.

Actually they do, if enough copies get sold early monday, VALVe could ask VUG if they can activate early since so many people have it. VUG says yes or no to before 16th activation, whether you like it or not.

Nope, you're just really impatient. :)

My point exactly blackmesadude.
It should be explicit on the box that you can only play on the 16th
i dont care whos fault it is shop/vivendi or valve.

Its definantly the shops fault, VUG put big notes on it, DO NOT SELL BEFORE Nov 16th or whatever. If people are too blind to read that, their fault.

Maybe someone in america will sue for not being able to play when they bought it.
Joking of course but you never know

They have no grounds to sue, the games release date is the 16th. If they got it before the 16th and cannot play it, well they have to wait.

Ok now imagine that the legal issue between vivendi and valve breaks on monday and valve say no to unlocking the game for the retail version and unlocking the steam bought copies.

I was going to post this in the thread over at steampowered before it was closed...

People well find any way to have their day in court if they really wanted it, even if there is little hope of winning. If some old woman who spilt her cup of coffee all over herself can sue McDonalds for not having "Contents are Hot" warnings on the cup, someone will find a way to sue Valve, VU, or the retailer (most likely pass off in that order).

Its not the same thing. Its like the old lady buying the cup off coffee and McDonalds saying they will only pour in the coffee in 2 or 3 days.

Ok i will shut up now

yeah but assumptions dont count for shit. if sold early at a store you'd just go have to vent your anger at the store, who are the ones at fault

In the end people just loose interest over this.. they really should unlock it since its everywhere to buy by now almost.... people are pissedl like hell and valve will do nothing i know that but still, its us fans thats important. If they loose us = no valve.

VALVe isn't controlling the activiation right now. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!!?

Apparently there are a growing number of people who ahve bought it and are now realizing they cant play it, it in another threadin this forum.

If I were to create a food that would kill someone if they ate it before a certain date and warned the grocery stores of this, and the stores sold it early, as far as I'm concerned, it ceases to be my problem.
Maybe a little extreme, but you get what I'm saying.
There's no physical or mental harm stemming from this little problem, if anyone were stupid enough to attempt to take this to court the judge would laugh in their face.

But you should warn people on the product you are selling that it will not be ok to eat before a certain date.

HL2 box should say :"only possible to play on the 16th"
I agree with steam and an online activation its valves product and they do as they please. But they shoudl warn buyers.Thats my point.

Well that's their fault they didn't realize they can't play until the 16th

You're right, bad example.
But my point is, it's entirely the shops' fault. As far as Valve was concerned, why put a warning like that on the box if it won't be sold before the 16th?

No its not their fault If you dont follow HL2 like must of the people on this forum you cant know about the 16th because its not on the box they bought in a shop.
