Let (more) Speculation Begin!

You're telling me an expansion has more plot points than the main game? Those are some heavy-dose turns.

It's not called (or deemed) an expansion anymore...

Story continuation sounds promising, and i feel that the 'untouchable and elusive Gman' is starting to crumble and fall, its a weird feeling to see someone with this aurora of omnipotentence and omniscience beginning to faulter, i'm glad VALVe are going in this direction so we can get some answers. Jury is out on weather to buy or just read the story from wikipedia. If theres enough in it (story and technology wise) then i'll look into it.

I hope the only aliens aren't antlions. They were great, but to be honest, it'd be rather dull if that was it. The return of some old Xen creatures would be just swell.

No offence, because I do love the news, the deliverer, and Halflife2.net, but there is some pretty appalling grammar gracing the front page. I like my news all professional. Sorry to be a little bitch about it :p
*Hugs Rupertvdb for being so gramatically anal*
Well done, sir!

Hang on, what, grammar, where? It's mostly quotes from the article/Rob Walker or whoever! D:

So I was perhaps right about the significance of Kliener and Lamarr finding Gordon after the credits had rolled?
What about..

No. You are not right.

I am being a lazy toad and have to flee to London anyhow, but just read the news for sense. You'll find that some is lacking. Argh! I being finickity again, this is what comes of literature degrees; be warned!

I can see what you mean in bits but only a very small part of it is me writing. The rest is quotes. EDIT: Probably mostly fixed.

If there are scans I would really like them, thanks...

Words can express how excited I am about Ep 1. :D:D:D:D:D:D

You see one of them on some monitors if you chase after Breen before he gets in the reactor.
If you download the Source SDK the combine slug things (the overlords?) can be viewed in detail using the model viewer. It's obviously the model they used for the monitor glimpse shot your talking about. Weird looking doods for sure!

It's only 12 pounds for a good 6 hours of gameplay. That's cheaper cash per hour than a low class hooker with one leg.

(prices for both forms of enjoyment estimated)

I'm pretty sure the Run-for-your-life sequence in the citidel will be all scripted stuff, but I'd like it to be a Metroid-timed-escape-from-Brinstar type of escape sequence, that'd be sweet.

I really can't wait for this to come out.

Could the 3rd power be race X from Op4?

omg no no no :p

Anyway. Hopefully we will know the name of the slugs creatures, They aren't the combine, The combine, are the synths and the overwatch. The slug creatures and w/e else there are, they control the combine which is whatever creatures and races they managed to turn into there Army

up until now I had no idea that HL2.net staff members (or at least some of them) were complete idiots.

I'm sorry but only an "idiot" could have posted spoilers of Episode 1 (which hasn't come out yet!!!) without even warning the readers that their news is full of spoilers.

idiots!

I'm definelty not coming back to this site anytime soon.

see you in 2 months idiots

No, the Slug creates are the Combine, the true Combine. The Synths and the Overwatch are not the Combine. Believe it or not, they are the synths and the overwatch.

Valve have confirmed that they will not continue Race x.

"Episode 1 will mark the rise of a third power in the HL2 universe"
Er....
1: Combine
2: Humans
3: Xenians
(and Race-X too I suppose)

Actually, I kinda agree with Wilka. The spoiler warnings aren't totally obvious. I only noticed them on my second read through. Bold font would be nice.

I don't think it's necessary. For one thing, INCREDIBLE REVELATIONS is already bolded which kind of gives it away. Secondly, you'd only miss the spoiler warning if you were skipping forward in a rush to get to the info, and you shouldn't be in a rush if you're so worried about spoilers. Thirdly, the info's not even that spoileriffic.

I just realised that the g-man loosing control thing fits perfectly with my theory that he is desperate/worried/afraid! (I came up with it ages ago)

1) Incredible Revelations could mean anything.
2) Some people skim read. Which is why it would be lovely if you drew attention to spoilers. Someone only needs one spoiler to affect the game. And if he's just reading the front page, it could be annoying if he read something he didn't want to read.

I'm not totally bothered about spoilers of this type, but some people may be.

You make a good point. It's not too late to edit it.

Still no excuse for Wilka to conduct himself the way he did.

I am very disapointed with the news post, its still not obvious enough there "spoilers" ,maybe size 70 font text made up of light up baboons behinds would make it clearer.

Seriously, if you didnt want spoilers you wouldnt read the whole thing and then wtf spoilers.

"Gordon is removed from stasis way before Gmans schedule, the very instant HL2 ended."

This does not make sense to me. Gordon was in HL2. How could he be woken up after its over?

At the very end of HL2 as Gordon destroys the Citadel's reactor, Gman puts him in stasis (signified through Gman's speech and the explosion slowing right down) However it would seem that Gordon was brought out of this stasis without the Gman's consent - could this be the work of the mysterious 'third power'?

HL2 doesn't end when G-Man walks out the white void door. It ends when Lemarr jumps at Gordon's face.

This really isn't anything we didn't know before. Gordon escaped stasis early? Knew it. Mad dash through the citadel and Kleiner on the monitors? Knew it. Combine unhappy with Breen's failure? Breen said as much himself; knew it. Dog and Barney, people facing new challenges, extraordinary times? Knew them all. Hardly spoilerific, but thanks for confirming them, I guess. (Even though they were already confirmed...)

Also, the third power is the G-man's employers.

Yeah, that fits in with that G-Man quote from the teaser trailer when he's like 'We'll see... about THAT.' He's probably pissed that Gordon got free when if wasn't supposed to be free. Though I can see the G-Man, after you crush the Combine dominion, saying something like 'That was my whole plan from the beginning Gordon lol.' Oh, you so kerazy, G-Man.

I can wait. After playing HL I was hoping for something different from HL2. I'm sure Episode 1 will be a good game but I hate being strung along and HL2 with so many unanswered questions did just that as I'm sure Episode 1 will do.

HOLY CRAP I'M (possibly) RIGHT!

"Episode 1 will mark the rise of a third power in the HL2 universe - one that'll have a large impact on Gordon’s future." Evidence apparently suggests the true Combine - those yet to come to Earth. Whether this means gigantic lazy slugs floating hilariously above City-17 or crazy synth creatures is as yet unclear.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=81163&page=5&highlight=Rantings+tired+cross+country+runner

I poster a theory a while ago about a theoretical third power in the hl2 universe that was just as if not more powerful than the combine and that the reason the combine were going from planet to planet mining each of it's resources until it was barren and agumenting whatever life forms were there into the ranks of the combine was because they were gearing up for a conflict with this theoreticle third power. I speculated that at the moment there was a tense, cold war like, standoff between the two powers and that they were building up on either side and that the g-man sending gordon to undermine the combine's Earth operation was espionage by this third power.

But as the Sulkodds stated in the article the third power is probably the combine. It'll be awesome either way.
