Yeah, I'm paying for a brand name.
But then you get hardcore gamers like xcellerate that try and make out like Apples suck because they don't play games as smoothly as PCs. Ah well
Yawn. You really don't get it. Argument over.
So enlighten me oh wise one.
starting software(i have yet to see a machine with as clean ,well running and usable set of starting software than a mac, also just because you might not use the software, lots of people do), lack of viruses & spyware(just because you dont get them doesnt mean other people dont), generally better support than most other companies.
the only downside i really see to macs is lack of expandability, and the price they charge off their website for hardware upgrades(makes the retail store i work at seem like pricing saints for some stuff).
and also on the gaming end, arnt the xbox 360's running ppc cpu's?
I see the heat has moved from the Religious thread to the PC vs Mac.
I don't care as long as I don't play my games on a console.
The only topic more heated than both of these combined, is the Rosie vs Donald feud.
OMFG PC > CONSOLES LOLOLOLO!!! CONSOLES R 4 KIDZ U NUB!...
I haven't had spyware or viruses in over four years. Learn2usetheinternet.
And I'll be impressed when you have a pic of DoD:S on a 32 player server with aax4 afx16 at 50fps, not dod on an empty server.
Unlike Microsoft, Apple are in the business of selling hardware boxes and it's in their interest to ensure that every few years you buy a new box off of them, rather than retrofit your old one. Back when they first came out the first IMacs were heralded as these great innovations, they even won plaudits in the design community, but you'd be hard pressed to find any of them still in active use, most are sitting in landfills blatently not bio-degrading (amusing fact given Steve Jobs pally ways with Al Gore).
Great. He owns a Mac Mini, a product that Apple sells to consumers, and it's a piece of shit. How does offering higher end models allow you to get away with ones that run like shit? If it runs like shit then don't put it on the market. What kind of business man are you...
Edit: You are not worthy of your name.
I used my friends crappy Mac Mini for a bit and soon realized how overblown the whole Mac thing is. The thing took forever to load and all the animations were jerky. Just goes to show you that no matter if its a PC or Mac, it'll run like shit with the right specs.
Granted Apple aren't for the hardcore gamers, but for people that don't want to spend 10 hours a day infront of their PC, the mac is an ideal machine for newbies etc.
But then you get hardcore gamers like xcellerate that try and make out like Apples suck because they don't play games as smoothly as PCs. Ah well
Yeah, I'm paying for a brand name.
Well see. For the specs of the Mac mini, I'd get a fast enough PC and it would cost me much less.
Crash prone + virus vulnerable? Been a while since I experience either, but I must be one of the lucky ones, eh?
It didn't win me over, thats for sure.
So enlighten me oh wise one.
And your to tell me that old Pentium II's are still in use today too? Bullshit. Try running xp on a pentium II or an old celeron. (These were the main processors in use during the introduction of the first imac. You can't. I bet you that for every iMac in a landfill theres 3 more pentium II boxes.
You do realise that PCs boxes are generally made of metal, and that metal can in fact be recycled far more easily than moulded plastic? Or that given the ATX motherboard format has been in place since 1995 it's entirely possible to still use those very same metal boxes and just swap out elements as and when necessary when upgrading? The only thing you could upgrade with the original Imac was the Ram, there were two additional slots, one the user could manually access, the other required a certified apple engineer to carry out.
Also as you seem to not quite understand this, professional companies don't buy macs to run Apples Ilife apps on (or even the laughable Iwork), they buy it to run Photoshop, Vectorworks, Quark etc on. Applications that are made by other companies. Want to know one of the biggest selling applications that runs on macs? Microsoft Office (for the record). The only decent pro app Apple have under their belt is Final Cut Pro.
well, yes i understand this: the point is, apple hardware is hard to upgrade becuase much of it isn't standard hardware - or in the case of the newer imacs or mac minis - its really laptop hardware. And, last time I checked, plastic could be recycled too.
I vote this thread closed. Theres so much bullshit in here you could ****ing wade in it. Nothing will be accomplished here but a bunch more people bitching and yelling this and that....
