When else are we going to do it? We should have done it in the 70's or 80's.

But that doesn't answer my question of why. What possible reason do we have to set up colonies on mars? I'm not aware of any resource mars has that would make sense to export back to earth (I could be totally wrong on this). And again, any mission to mine resources could be done much more efficiently using robots.

I have seen some cool documentaries about terraforming mars; but this would take hundreds of years and again can be done using unmanned missions.
