So there are a few pros and cons I can think of. One huge con is... well, going with a piddly 9mm round instead of a manly 45 ACP. The USP Match (Yeah, we know it's a Match) would be so much cooler with 6 less bullets, but about 40% more damage.
The SMG is a friggin hand cannon. It has soooooooooo much ammo. Playing on medium, I strafed out and wasted 4 Combine Guard with just a random spray. It was weird.
The Shotgun is hella sexy. No complaints.
The Magnum... didn't HL1 have more ammo for it? It was cooler then. BTW: I suppose I should mention that a .357 is smaller than a 45ACP, but the Magnum round is known worldwide for it's power. You know our beloved AWM(/P, for you CS Purists)? .338 Lapua Magnum.
Hmm... the Zero Point Enegy Manipulator was good. No complaints.
Now, the backbone of the combine arsenal (as far as infantry goes), the I-Rifle/Pulse Rifle/Pwn Cannon. I don't think it was strong enough Why did our dark matter shots kill in one hit, but it took like 10 from the Combine? It's the same dark matter, right?
Oh, and it eats ammo like a mother. It has this huge ROF but not enough comparable damage. I found myself sticking to the SMG unless I needed dark matter.
Eh, you can't complain about grenades. They do what they do. Explode. Same with the RPG.
The crossbow... eh. The Stakegun in Painkiller did it better. For some reason I didn't have much fun with it this time around. But then again, I mostly used suit zoom to make sure I had them sighted, and tapped off shots with the pistol or magnum.
So there you have it folks, my thoughts on Gordon Freeman's tools. Feel free to discuss
