Limited transfer with a network adapter (now with TL;DR version!)
I bought a router about a week ago, since I now have 3 PCs in my house, and everything's fine except for one thing.
My desktop PC seems to have some issues with it's network adapter - network transfer is limited. While two of the other PCs (OldLaptop and NewLaptop) can access the Internet at full speed (not at the same time of course), which is around 120kB/s, my desktop can only achieve around 30-40kB/s.
Now I remember my brother telling me that some time ago, when the desktop was connected directly to the Internet and OldLaptop was getting Internet through the network adapter, he measured the net speed on OldLaptop and it was much slower then expected.
So I am guessing something is wrong with the network adapter (it's integrated in the mobo BTW), as it's unable to receive fast enough now, while before not being able to send fast enough.
Also, a few weeks ago I wanted to transfer around 12GB of files from my desktop to my laptop, via the network adapter and instead of it going at 100Mbps (ie. around 12,5MB/s), I think it went 2MB/s max and that's after about an hour of gradually speeding up to that speed.
Is there anything I can check to fix this? Or do I have to get a new network adapter? Cause it's pretty weird, I'd rather expect it to either work normally or not work at all; not have the transfer limited.
