Miyamoto the murderer!

Gaming genius in killing off of Zelda shock!

The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary creator of Mario and Zelda (among others) has given a radio interview in which he has spoken words of doom to thousands of fanboys around the world: the next Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, will be the last. Ever.

For those of you now crying softly into your 'Cube controller, the news wasn't all bad, because what Miyamoto-san actually said is that this will be the last time we see Zelda "in its present form."

But Miyamoto promises the best Zelda game ever, saying he's had much more input into this one than Wind Waker and describing the game as "the most rich, satisfying and melancholy" Zelda title yet. Miyamoto, acknowledging the constant delay of the release of what may be the GameCube's last key title, asked for fans to be patient and promised us that the wait will be worth it.

:( This better had not be true. Unless "in its present form" means that in this game Link and Zelda both die for good and a new hero shines.

EDIT: Source

I haven't played a Zelda game since Ocarina of Time, but I expect this is bad news for some people.

no linky?

If you mean a link to the Source, I edited it in. If you were referring to the main character with an adoring nickname, I share your pain. :(

I wonder what that means. The characters die? They just stop using the characters? Maybe a new style of game will come with the same characters?

BTW...is there even a release date yet for the new zelda game?

Was due November this year. Delayed till March '06.

yey! No more "OMG! Zelda was kidnapped by Gannon! Quick, go find the Master Sword and save her" stuff over and over and over again.
Joy.

Link....
I think I speak for all of us when I say,

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I think people misunderstood it. He said "last Zelda in it's present form." I think that just means with the new Revolution controller, we are going to experience it in a new form. No way would Nintendo kill off one of it's last, and best franchises.

For all of you who think Zelda is crap because it features a kid in green saving a princess, go and play OoT. I've only just played it recently, not when it origonally came out, and I still found it amazing. Wind Waker is also brilliant, simply because it's one of the only games that rewards you for discovering what lies over the horizon.

Oh, and I don't think it would matter too much if they killed off the characters, because Link isn't just one person but an ongoing legend. If he was to die, another person would take up his mantle. After all, the games are about courage rather than one kid's leet skillz.

This is being such misinterpreted.

Think about it guys.

Z-Targeting was introduced in Ocarina of Time and of course has been in every Zelda since. That was definetely different form than the other Zelda's.

Now with the Revolution, Zelda will not be the same as it currently is. Obviously another new way of controlling everything.

I highly highly doubt they will change everything story-wise... Zelda is one of the best IP's out there, and to kill it off would be suicide for Nintendo (they aren't exactly pumping out a whole slew of huge new IP's)

Expect to see suicide percentage increase after the release of the new Zelda game.

Ocarina of Time was the best, but I'm truly tired of the plethora of Gameboy Zelda games and tbh i won;t be that sad if this is the last Zelda game, let the people come up with a new IP and stop milking one that originated on the original Nintendo, if I wanna experience Zelda greatness there's a reason I kept my N64

Meh..... played Zelda few times, it never caught on to me.

What I think they are saying is "Zelda is getting ready for the Revoultion."

Zelda Baseball!
Zelda Tennis!
Zelda Party 1 - 5!
Zelda Paint!
Dr. Zelda!
Zelda's Mansion!
etc.

They're getting ready to milk the franchise! :O

Hey hey! Let's wait to see what happens before we let the fag in us shine through!

Does this mean ninty have given themselves a good reason to make the ending of TP good?

Meh. I'm disappointed but not gutted, they never have been able to top OoT.

If this Zelda game will be better than Zelda III to Super Nintendo, his statements will be true.

Exactly what I said, but still everyone thinks that Link is getting killed off :p They won't listen to us, argh. LoL.

I can almost assure everyone that the Zelda franchise will not be killed off... Well, unless they want to use the Nintendogs IP as a replacement :cheese:

I just hope it doesn't go to first person like Metroid did. I loved the Metroid series until Prime. Sure, many people love it and that is fine, but its just not the same for me. Hopefully we won't see Link and/or Simon Belmont go that same route.

Then again, with some really terrific looking fantasy-style FPSs coming out in the near future, maybe it would turn out wonderful. I don't know, but much will be revealed when Nintendo announces ANYTHING about the new system/controller. Then we can really start speculating!

Even a blind chimp could figure that out.
I am a blind chimp and I couldn't figure it out, you sir were wrong.

Are you guys even reading the quote? First of all he says it will be the last Zelda game in it's present form, and this is from a rough translation from the original radio interview. This could mean a world of things, but there is absolutely no way in the world they would kill off the zelda series, in fact a new zelda game was already announced for revolution so this in itself dispells this ridiculously out of context rumor. Here's the original article:http://www.nintendojo.com/infocus/view_item.php?1125843178

oh and btw why the hell are people praising the idea of no more zelda games? A good game is a good game regardless of the systems you own, or whatever bias you have.

I think he ment all the educationed blind chimps.

Me and all my blind chimp friends figured it out.

dude my blind zombie hamster figured it out, and on topic I hope the new zelda games are as good as OoT (and include a musical instrument, I love fiddling with the occarina )

I agree with everyone else, the series is going in a new direction. Like the Wind Waker thing except more-so.

Everyone who says Zelda games sucks has poor taste in games...

No, we're just not fad whores. Zelda is ov-er-ra-te-d. Ocarina was good. After that, its the same thing every other game. And people have the nerve to even suggest that Zelda has a better plot than Chrono Cross? Are you ****ing kidding me?

Stories in Zelda games are pretty much the same. Kill Gannondorf and save people in the process by going through various temples. It's not the story that makes the games good. I think it's just the gameplay and world that's fun.

I personally didn't like OoT...
Just not my type of game.
It was boring and tedious to play x.o

And now xlucidx also has incredibly bad taste.

It seems to be spreading.

OoT. I hadn't played it, Finally got it up on an emulator like last year. I love gamepads, and yeah....I love the game.

Never said I was a fan of Metroid, PoP, or Street Fighter. Halo 2 made up with amazing MP. Final Fantasy has amazing stories.
