ok, i have Windows Xp, and i am wondering, what version of Linux would work for me, a gamer? Does it act the same as Windows, is it easy to use, will all my programs work on Linux? Thanks.

ahem.

the most popular linux distrobutions are Redhat, Mandrake, and Suse. All are nice. If you are a gamer you will want to make a dual boot system because linux is poop at gaming. it acts very much the same as windows (in terms of having a desktop gui) but the similarity really ends there. its more similar to a macintosh (minus the "gay").

your games will probably work on linux, though you will have better luck with some than others. this program is called winex, and costs a small amount of money.

unless you know the answers to your questions id suggest you keep with windows.

If I were you, i'd download the cd image for Knoppix, which is a verison of linux that'll boot from the CD. That'll let you get and idea of what linux is like.

If you wanted to get linux for gaming (ie ut2k4, aa:ops, other linux games), I'd Gentoo, if you have someone around who knows linux. otherwise, there are some simple distros like redhat, the distro formerly know as lindows. (linspire?)

Gentoo is kinda hard to start with, no? You need to do alot by yourself.

I have Mandrake 10 and I can run CS 1.6 (with Steam). I am using WineX CVS so it's completly free! The performances are not very impressive but at least I can enjoy playing CS on linux! hehe :)

Linux.. it's not entirely worth the fuss, it's a good stable OS, but it's just not compatable ;(

Installing Gentoo Linux is not the easiest thing in this world but it's not very difficult either. Docs on their site are really wonderful and in their forums you will find all the info you'll ever need. Once you're done setting it up it's fast, rock solid, and the ease with which you can maintain it is a dream come true!!

I wish there could be a HL2 client. :(
