What are some good sites for novice, advanced and guru?

Some of the sites that I have seen would be...

Gamedev.net flipcode.com

Also- When it comes down to it for c++ programing I know its a matter of choice but does anyone know any pros or cons of going with or without Visuall c++ or .net as i think its called now from microsoft? I keep hearing that dev c++ or bleed or whatever that is a free compiler actually is a more complete form of c++??? or atleast its GNU lol.

www.cplusplus.com
cpp-home.com
hl2coding.com
hl2coders.com

The first two will teach you the language, while the others will help you once you are advanced, with knowledge of Source... Remember it will take more than a year to become proficient (The average seems to be about 2 or 3 years before people start doing mods) so don't worry about the advanced or guru sites yet, because they will just sidetrack you...

I also suggest doing more than websites, get books... Go to your local bookstore or amazon.com and order some C++ books to help you learn your language (and build up your library ;) )

Dev C++ by bloodshed is a free compiler and IDE... I suggest using it while starting off :) You, as a beginner, won't need to worry about doing anything with Source yet (but if you want to check it out, you could head over to sourcewiki.org and they have instructions)

Good luck, it will be quite a ride :)
