There are some handy little hacks you can make to windows xp that are fun and useful. If you know any post 'em here. I know a couple. I'll start off with this one:

How to shut down your computer in one click

1. make a shortcut. (right click -> new-> shortcut)
2. the name of it can be shutdown and the target is the following: shutdown -s -t 0
3. then click ok.
4. change the icon to something more beutiful, like the red shutdown icon. (right click on shortcut on desktop -> properties -> change icon)
5. drag it onto the quick launch. Or you can just double click it and it will shutdown the computer!

pretty cool. I know others that are cooler, but I'll save those for when other ppl post ;)

Get tools and tweaks not designed by monopolies :dork: >> www.majorgeeks.com

Tweak it till you break it :E

If you want the best tweak for windows, go here >> www.linuxiso.org

As for my donation to the "hax" thread here:
-This will fix most issues you may be having, go to "Start>Shut Down>Restart"

Here are some simple things... some people still might not know them though.
Customizable MS-DOS options: Create a shorcut to C:\WINDOWS\System32\command.com. Then right-click the shortcut, and choose properties. You can make it full screen, change settings, etc.
Type these into the Start > Run box.
msconfig - Edit programs that automatcially start when you run Windows.
sysedit - Edit system.ini, win.ini, config.sys, and autoexec.bat (although some of these files arent used anymore.)

OK here we go.....

First, take your image and resize it to approximately 125 by 125 pixels. and save it as "oemlogo.bmp" into C:\WINDOWS\System32.

Then you can add this too, the "support info" part didn't work for me, but it works for other ppl.

open up notepad type the following:

[General]
Manufacturer=
Model=
[Support Information]
Line1=
Line2=
Line3=

Simply fill in the lines after the equal signs and save as "oeminfo.ini" into C:\WINDOWS\System32. Then right click my computer and click properties to see the awesomeness!!

AHHHHH no Ghz you have!!!!!! only mhz!!!mhelp hjel[p help!!!!

P.S how did u get "pyrocow" on the corner there?

another one:

you know how if you have say 100 IE windows open, windows groups them all into one thing in the taskbar? well, here is how to specify exactly how many have to be opened befopre it starts grouping them.

1.open start menu, select run, type regedit
2.Go to HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
3.Click Edit (at the top), select new, and then DWORD value.
4.Name this value "TaskbarGroupSize"
5.Once opened, right click it an select modify.
6.Type in the number of windows that u wnat open b4 it starts groupiing them.

DISCLAIMER: The registery editor is a very handy app, but if misued can totally mess up your system. It is like having a heart surgery on the PC, if you mess up, it can really die. use at own risk.

I think it should be a general notice here to everyone, that before you accidentally trash your box, you should backup not only the registry, but the files that you might also be replacing :rolling:

but if you follow the instructions everything will be OK.

ok. It's not exactly a hack, and it is extremely easy to use, but it is fun:

1. right click my computer and go to properties
2. go to the tab called computer name
3. in the computer description, put whatever you want.

Now go to the welcome screen, and it will say "Turn off X" where X is the computer description.

edit: it's not letting me upload my example. But yeah, it's cool.

so if ur description is "Hell's Demon" it will say "turn off hell's demon" it's fun.

effing feedback guys?!?! I mean c'mon!! i'm tired of posting for myself!

I tried it but I couldnt even select the text box for computer description?

most of these i cant do. windows 2000 > xp!
they sound fun though. gj
