Built By ATI Cards Good?

the non Sapphire,Hercules etc.

ta :D

Dont you get a little sticker on the box saying that? Thats there so you know its a quality card you getting... not a cheap made up one :)

I got a Sapphire 9700 and i think i got the sticker on the box.

Just do some research before you buy the card, see what users of the cards have experienced. Some are great (i've even heard some are better than built by ATI), and some are awful.

I'm new to ATI cards (always used Nvidia and 3dfx before) but i'll share my experience. I ordered a Sapphire 9800 Pro from Newegg.com a couple of months ago that turned out to have defective vram, so i RMA'd it back to Newegg and decided to just go for an ATI 9800 Pro from Best Buy which turned out to be a fantastic card, no problems or complaints with it in the past 2 months i've been using it (default clock speeds). Also, i dont know if it's a production line problem or Newegg.com, but i know several people that ordered non-ATI built 9600 and 9800 Pro's that were delivered to their homes defective...possibly bad quality assurance at the factory, i dont know. Just a heads up.

Don't worry man, Sapphires are great cards. The failure rate is pretty low over at the extremeoc.com forum and everyone I know that has one has never had a problem with it.

Yeah, just because i got a defective one doesnt mean they're all going to be defective.

I also heard Sapphire makes great cards.

good luck

Sapphire also makes the best cards for overclocking. They use higher quality (faster) RAM than ATi specifies. They also generally have better cooling solutions than BBATi's.

What about Overcloking? ATI Built Cards... They dont Prevent it to they or is it the same as hercules, saphire ones etc

No, ATi doesn't prevent overclocking.

Some of the sapphire cards have better memory so they are best for OCing the memory.
But I think hercules has the best cooler so they can OC the core higher.

But I generally like to stick with "Built by ATI" cards.

Hell the XT's are simply over clocked versions of their pro's from what i've read. They just have better cooling solutions on em, or something.

I got a Sapphire Radeon 9800np, recently flashed to pro, and it works like a dream on stock pro speed. The memory is really good, but you have to be a little lucky to get good ram. But most of the people with samsung ram have great results when flashing from np to pro.

No, the core has been rearranged to provide more efficient heat dissipation, so it's not technically just an overclocked 9800pro. It also may have some more efficient algorithims cause it's indeed faster clock-for-clock than the 9800pro.
