Live Doug Lombardi Interview

yeah, I believe so

edit: hopefully the bastards will announce a release date. So far I've heard mid-summer for completing the game, and from somewhere else the first part of summer...

The first half of summer you've heard is from Doug Lombardi himself in a interview with Eurogamer.net:

Eurogamer: Is there much left to do now?

Doug Lombardi: Well, we're hoping to be Beta before the show, before E3, and then after that it'll be at final release candidate stage, so we're targeting to be done for the first half of this summer.

Dunno.. I'm not very keen on listening to Lying Lombardi™ and his bullshitting.

Some interesting notes from the interview...

CSS will be made available at the same time as HL2, but not included. This dispells the rumor that CSS is HL2's MP mode.

G-Man is/was not the administrator of Black Mesa. Dr. Bren was and is now the administrator of City-17

The sdk will be released in parts because they don't want to have a chance of ruining surprises.

Hmmm trying to remember anything else....

People who visited both booths got a t-shirt apparently. Anyone wanna show a pic if this is true?

Summer is still planned but of course he wouldn't even say when they considered summer to be over. He said that they don't wanna risk missing another date.

He said people love to play with physics and have tons of moments of just teetor tottering with the Buggy and literally hold their breath hoping it will come back on the road.

Oh and the Sal gamespy guy said some interesting things about the gameplay since he played the 3 pre-e3 levels :D

woo woo my spoiler tags worked right :) wasnt sure on the command

Wow that ruined all speculation and shit entirely.. Too bad :(

Did he say whether they had gone beta as planned?

Which is the reason it has spoiler tags........ It's your fault that your curiosity got the better of you :p

The worst was he said that on the air, live and didn't even give a warning.... how sad for those who just wanted to know a little more but know nothing about the actual story line.

*edit* No word on beta stage.

haha, oh man...
Well, remember the interview with doug we got may 10th I beleive?
It's a video interview, and I see him saying exactly "we're targeting the completion of the game around mid-summer roughly"

Lol, Doug has bad aim. Stay on target.... stay on target...

So CS-S will be a seperate product you have to buy....hmmm...risky...

no

CS Source will be part of HL2 multiplayer

but ALSO sold seperately (for the 2 million noobs who bought HL:CS instead of plain old HL) :D

Lombardi said in the Live Wire interview that HL & CS Source would come with the SE of HL2.

so how do you explain gabe saying (whilst demoing HL2 at E3):

'a lot of people ask us about multiplayer...so we decided to combine the worlds most popular online action game, with the power of source'

pretty indicative that HL2's MP will inc CS:Source right?

HL2 will have it's own multiplayer, along with CS Source.

Not neccessarily. Could just mean "A lot of people asked us about MP, so here is an example of what Source can do for MP"

apos, that would be pretty misleading thing to say in the middle of a HL2 demo

methinks you are clutching at straws a wee bit

HL Source and CS Source will be in the collectors edition???? Bonus! Now light a fire and rejoice!

apos, that would be pretty misleading thing to say in the middle of a HL2 demo

Er, no, it's not. Not if it wasn't meant the way you took it.

Again: what is livewire, and is anyone going to give us a transcript of it?

Ok, let me just ask this to verify this information.

So, the Source updates are the extra content that comes with the Collector's Edition? That's excellent.

It also means that my theory was not only off, but completely off. Which is good. Because it means HL2 will have it's own multiplayer mode. Dunno about anyone else, but with all the potential of the Source engine, I'd like to see a mode similar to what Bungie is doing with Halo 2, where it's the good guys vs bad guys (Spartans vs Elites in Halo 2's case) Imagine an objective-based multiplayer mode with one side being Combine and the other being Resistance Fighters. Perhaps objectives like the Resistance fighters have to defend a vital outpost from a wave of Combine attackers. Perhaps drivable striders to help the combine out, and a load of defense utilizing the Source engine to help out the Resistance. Sound cool? I think it could turn out quite cool if they did it, or if a mod community did.

Uhhhhh....no. They wouldn't just show an example of the most popular online fps game on source, its obviously coming with HL2 or apart of HL2 through the SE edition or through steam. Hopefully, just hopefully valve has made a fun deathmatch, team deathmatch mode for us. For TF2 once again, no idea! I really wish they would share some damn information this summer atleast.

You mean like Terrorists vs Counter-Terrorists? :p

Well I mean taking the good and bad guys from the single player story and putting them in situations that could conceivably happen in the single player campaign of said game.

They wouldn't just show an example of the most popular online fps game on source, its obviously coming with HL2 or apart of HL2 through the SE edition or through steam.

Note that Gabe's actual quote is "Alot of people have asked about multiplayer. Something we've done is..." implying that it's just one of many things they've done. This doesn't tell us anything about what "HL2 MP" will be, and if it's coming in a special package, then it's definately NOT the standard HL2 MP.

Okay there's starting to be too many rumors. I'll just sumarize this.

Doug said that CSS will not be included in HL2. He did NOT say which version would include it, but rumor has it that it will be included in the special edition.

All the updated content like Half-Life, OpForce, BlueShift, etc etc will be at a budget price. Again, rumor has it they are included with the special edition.

Gabe only said that this is something they've done with multiplayer. They've only had this CSS up and running for like 2 months and they would want to do a little more polish because they must go through each map and update it with new graphics and add new exciting physics things. He merely was showing some sort of Source engine multiplayer. He did not come out and say "This is Half-Life 2 Multiplayer right here." Cause guys guess what... you didn't watch the videos carefully!!! He EXITED Half-Life 2, and then opened CSS which is seperate from HL2....

Here is an exact quote from the 700meg fileplanet movie..

"A lot of people have asked us about porting Half-Life to the Source engine. Well, here's Counter-strike"

In the interview they said that they took some guys who were not working on Half-Life 2 and then made them port CS over to Source... Well they weren't working on HL2 and moved them to CSS which means that CSS is not part of HL2 or else they woud have been working on it.

So guys we can now basically figure out that CSS is NOT Half-Life 2's MP... It is merely a showcase on how you can take a Half-Life mod and port it over to Source. CSS will be great and I will probably spend the extra 10 bucks or whatever it is to buy it. Everyone please please please stop going around saying CSS is HL2's MP mode! Gabe simply put it in bad wording and the press took off on it (*cough* Shacknews *cough*) and now everyone won't look at the facts... Mmmkay? :D thx for reading this all.

...I think we'll know for sure in two months' time, and I think we'd still play the multiplayer if it were a freaking Source version of Pong.

Now that's the most realistic speculation in the whole thread. ;)

Good post Iced_eagle, that sounds about right to me.

But i still feel we need some official word on all this. I want to play both HL2MP and CSS, but i would rather only buy 1 game....:p

I agree with smt, even if it WAS just the sourced Mods, that'd be enough for me. Hell even if it was just the sourced single player mods, that'd be more than enough for me. When you add TFC, and then whatever else they are cooking up, well I'd say my multiplayer needs are met for at least the next 5 years.

Nope, you're not :D

Can you see the pool of drool on the floor?!? can you!?

Heh yeah I'm currently floating in my own pool of drool thinking of all these awesome games in one package (assuming the CE bundle is confirmed)

Cause guys guess what... you didn't watch the videos carefully!!! He EXITED Half-Life 2, and then opened CSS which is seperate from HL2....

But the Half-Life2 menu didn't even have an option for multiplayer... :(

Maybe it's not such a big deal...i mean, the screens showing him everywhere gave me a pretty good idea

maybe the MP is seperate, like CoDn would be quite handy since you have to launch both via Steam... :bounce:
