k this is just too weird:

Exploding toads puzzle German scientists

"More than 1,000 toads have puffed up and exploded in a Hamburg pond in recent weeks, and scientists still have no explanation for what's causing the combustion, an official said Wednesday.

Both the pond's water and body parts of the toads have been tested, but scientists have been unable to find a bacteria or virus that would cause the toads to swell up and pop, said Janne Kloepper, of the Hamburg-based Institute for Hygiene and the Environment.

"It's absolutely strange," she said. "We have a really unique story here in Hamburg. This phenomenon really doesn't seem to have appeared anywhere before."

edit: important parts bolded for those with ADD

quick someone model a toad hand gernade for CS:S!

I think they should test human subjects :E it might explain the reason behind so-called "suicide bomber" Phenomena :P

This toad jihad is clearly the actions of Osama Bin Laden and his gay-Nazi lovers.

I can't imagine what is going on in that pond. Reminds me of when we were kids and we'd try to feed alka seltzer to seagulls. We never get them to eat it, but the story goes, if they eat alka seltzer their stomachs expand very fast and causes them to explode.

The alka seltzer thing is probably just an urban legend. Regardless it sounds like kids doing something they shouldn't. Especially if the water isn't polluted. I hope they figure it out.

No, this does work. It relies on the fact that seagulls can't equalize pressure in the stomach.

Thank you, I find it quite... fascinating.

My philosophy on life is, "If two men were supposed to have sex together, then they would be spawning babies from their asses." ;)
