Load problem

When I open hl2, man with valve in his eye comes up. Screen goes black then I Come back to windows screen with hl2 in taskbar. When I click on this screen goes black again. I keep hitting keyboard buttons indiscriminately on this black screenand sometimes it gets going. If not it goes back to windows. Does anyone know which button does it?

P.S. all this shit started after I uploaded the new ver of Steam.

What are your computer specs and what version of Windows are you running?

512 mb, 2.6 processor, XP

Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics. Again, I only have this problem since I downloaded new ver. of steam. Worked fine for 3 weeks before that.....
