Loast Coast Thoughts and Impressions?

Well I just finished, the fishermans last words struck me..."Your getting all fuzzy around the edges"...Gman?
By Gman I ment was it the Gmans doing it, and a hint about the Gman using a completely different form of teleportation?

It was fun but too damn short (yes i know its only to showcase HDR...), but I cant even run that cause my g-card sucks. I wanted to go to the village though! I tried to noclip there and the factory area but its not solid, just floaty stuff (static meshes? not sure about terminology). But overall I just cant wait for more HL2 aka aftermath :)

Mine crashed 3 times, I think it is because of my wireless internet that sucks ass, but it looks great and is fun and stuff but it dont run that great on my pc.

(2.4ghz 1024mb ram, radeon 9600)

both your cpu and vid card are below the minimun requirements ..if I crash with a 2.8 ghz I dont see how yours wouldnt

I just finished my second run through The Lost Coast. It is sweet! I am amazed how well it runs on my rig. Specs:
Asus A8N-SLI
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
4x 512MB generic dual channel ram
Club3D X850XT
I run it on 1280x1024, all options on high, full HDR, 6x AA, 16x AS and it runs (almost) without a hickup.
HDR is great. The lighting really adds another layer of immersion. The view of the beach was beautiful with the light skimming off the sand, the cliffs, the glistening rocks. It's a bit full on esp with the sun in the beginning, but since the Lost Coast is a showcase level, it makes sense.
The chapel was stunning. It might even be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a game. The frescos withered by weather and war, the light breaking thru the smoked glass windows and landing on the chandeliers dangling in the wind (or coz of my gravity gun :naughty: ).
I liked the commentary. I really hope they add more of this in future games. The Lost Coast is another great addition to the original title. My anticipation of Aftermath has gone up another notch.

EDIT

<What are you looking at, dude?>

<Graphical sweetness>

Just finished my first run through on Hard

Mmmm.pretty

One second the dropship is flying away
whoops it disappeared into thin air

I had another weird thing with the game. When the helo crashed at me and blew up that platform to drop down onto...well the first time it didnt blow up anything on the platform and I had nowhere to go. I looked around for like 5 min trying to find a place to drop down or run to but I loaded my last autosave which happened to have the AI bugged and floating in midair so I went back further before that had happened.

I kept trying to go slowmo and was actually worried about the AI for a bit. Then I remembered I can do whatever I want and win :p Also...when the hell does the AI flank you? There's no real opportunity for them to in the level design even if the AI tried.

Anyways, sure it's just a tech demo and it pretty much all looks nice...

all you had to do was use the gravity gun to knock the planks out of the way, then drop down to the lower set of planks.

aww, you have shiney water, I want shiney water...

For sure. I would be happy with that. Especially since you don't need to buy a new card just to play. Although after seeing all the screens I be you want a new PC? :D

the wireless wouldnt affect an offline game o.0
Yea but you need internet to play with steam and if steam crashes, your game crashes. Right?

Wow wow wow, very impressed...

How they got it to run well and look like that on a 9600XT i will never know - are they geniuses or are other games programmers, well.... crap??!

One thing though, I played it through the second time on hard, and with the commentary turned on.

When I got inside the monestary, and topped up my HEV from the machine to 100 - I stopped taking damage! The embarrassing thing is that I never noticed until I had fought the combine off, and my health and HEV were still maxed. Even I'm not that good! I confirmed it by fighting the gunship without taking cover.

Anyone else had this happen to them??

Yes me :dozey:

Me 4, also when I died at the end (doh), and restarted from previous area, all the combine soilders were frozen in the air and not shootable...I think this is one buggy presentation. Lets just hope Aftermath will have things perfected :)

Or if you're me, you completely miss the fact that there are lower planks and set up a ramp with planks to climb over the top of the scaffolding. It took forever.

In the process of trying to climb over the scaffolding, I discovered some weird crap going on with the metal debris that came off the helicopter. I was trying to set it up to stand on to jump back into that little hallway that you just came out of (since I had no idea about the lower planks...), and suddenly found myself boosted up... to the roof?! What the heck? Seriously, sometimes when I jumped on those little metal objects, they propelled me into the air in strange and amazing ways. I'm guessing it's a glitch...? Did anyone else notice this? Too bad I was too confused to get a screenshot of it.

I gotta say, this shit looks awesome. HDR Makes it so realistic. Great stuff.

Yeah i took alot of pics like that really cool, its so realistic, because when you go from from a dark place to place with alot of light, your eyes got to adjust. Just like they say in the commentary. It might look 2 bright: buts its reality man. :D Here some more pics like that.

Yea me too, I noticed outside of the church.

Bloom was a bit overdone, yeah, but that's because they are trying to show off the technology, smart one. Textures are most definately not crap. You don't want stuff like FEAR where it eats up your video memory. And also, what part of the cliff fighting was scripted besides the repelling? I'm afraid you are incorrect, for what reason would they script it?

So Short...But So Magnificent .... CooL Game :sniper: Love ****ing The Combine's Over with Rocket Launcher :p ;) ....Graphics are Awesome they look real especially the old pensioner at the start :afro:

Yes i do. "built to showcase the latest in real-time graphics"
They are crap.

Everything in the whole level is actually, not just the cliff bit.
