Post songs/videos/infos on bands that are big in your local area, but aren't known elsewhere - but ought to be!

This is a big thing in New Zealand especially, as the music scene here is very insular. Since we're so small, even alot of bands who make it big over here don't get much coverage internationally (and no, I'm not talking about the ****ing Datsuns), so many are forced to take their material overseas, usually Australia or Europe, sometimes US if they're lucky (read - sellouts :P).

Anyway, there's a whole buttload of great music over here that never really sees the light of day, so I thought I'd share some with y'all and see what you think.

Goodshirt - These guys were big a couple years back then vanished off the face of the... country. This one's as much for the videos as for the songs, they're all ace :D

LIONS (Austin, Texas, USA)
Listen to "Come Around"

I usually can't stand this type of music, so the fact that I actually like it speaks worlds of this band's awesomeness. Unfortunately, their recorded material doesn't by any means do them justice... But if you get the chance to see them live, I can guarantee that your ass will be rocked straight off your backside. Plus, they're REALLY awesome guys... I partied with them when they came through town and stayed at my friend's house, lots of fun :D

Dirtfoot (Shreveport, Louisiana, USA)
Listen to "Rest My Head"

These guys are awesome, and live down the street from me. Another extremely fun band to see live. They pass out homemade shakers made out of empty cans duct taped together with corn or something inside. Once again, their live show vastly outperforms their recorded material.

Brian Martin (somewhere in Arkansas, USA)
Listen to "Ramblin' Life"

This guy is awesome. He plays a lot of shows with Dirtfoot. He's an amazing folk/blues guitarist, and the guy that plays harp for him is equally amazing.

Lions are pretty cool, kind of Queens of the Stone Age meets... something else (I have a band in mind but the name won't come). Can definitely imagine them being pretty kick-ass live. As for the others, not really my thing, but Brian seems fun.

Another kiwi band, this one's for all the post-rock junkies on the boards -

Jakob.

These guys are pretty famous, from around my area. I've seen 'em around.

This band started up just a few blocks from where I live.

and there are tons more that I don't have the necessary brainpower to recall.

The Toadies!

I get to see them every year at St. Patrick's Day even though they haven't been popular in 10 years.

The Butthole Surfers!

They were like...a one hit wonder.

Lots of people around here (Austin, TX) like Octopus Project. Honestly I don't care for them that much, but so many people do that I thought I'd throw it out there. :P

And we also have Cue. They are cool. Listen to Fleur de Lis.

That would be awesome except I am out of state for the summer.

Missed Cue at Emo's & Explosions taping for ACL a couple of weeks ago too.

Hey, someone bumped my thread ^.^

More NZ bands!

Shihad - http://www.myspace.com/22031241

May have heard of these guys. Originally come from my home town, pretty much the only big thing to ever come out of it.

Fun fact - they renamed to "Pacifier" for a short while for their tour of US as their name was too similar to "Jihad". This was right around the time of the 9/11 attacks. They hated the name so they changed back once it was done :D

Bad Hat you forgot the greatest NZ band of all time:
Flight of The Conchords

You mean the same Flight of the Concords that's posted here every other week? :)

SJD - http://www.myspace.com/sjdmusic

This guy's pretty awesome. Really chilly electronica/indie. Listen to "Superman You're Crying", great stuff (can't vouch for the newer songs on there as I only have one of his older albums).
