Long loading times

My specs:
amd athlon xp 3000+
Apollo 6600gt
512 mb pc3200 ram

Playing hl2 sp at medium settings, my load times are rediculously long. Generally around 2 minutes and 30 seconds. I suspect my video card has something to do with it because before i installed it, loading times were only about 25 seconds with my old dx8 card with medium settings.

No..I'd say it's your RAM...if your running windows XP then you've got about 300MB of RAM left (or less) to run the game. I had 1Gig of RAM and it was taking about 1 Minute to load..I recently upgraded my RAM to 2Gigs and between sections it takes 15 seconds to load. Of course when you first start the game it takes me about 30 seconds.

Perhaps because you have a new card it is loading the high quality textures etc into System memory. But it isn't an issue with your GFX.

I'd suggest getting 1GB of total system memory. It helps a bunch. Over 2 mins for a lvl loading? ouch

What hdd you got there? A slow hdd can really fubar your load times.

I'd say (like everyone else) get some more ram. It really helps with loading times.

Its not just the type of RAM you have, but it might be necessary to get some decent low Latency RAM. Corsair seem to be the one of the best
