Some really old pics of my maps (bad I know :P )

I'll do a few new ones, but like I said, I'm no decent mapper :o

Opinions?

Not bad, I'd need the .map file to tell you what you could improve... The textures are so so... HL I guess. Not much details but the lightning seems good. And it should run very well on low end computers :)

They were done on a 333mhz :) so, kinda designed for that :D

Nah, this wasn't asking for suggestions for improvments, just saying, look, this is what I used to be like :P

Yea it's good to see how we started and see the progression. Too bad I've lost all my old maps. Are you gonna map for HL2?

I've always had the problem when mapping that my maps are bright everywhere. I've looked at some info online and it says it's usually caused by leak but I know that's not the problem because I build my maps in a hollowed out box.

Better than anything than I can do...
Ditto

You probably compiled them without RAD :P

Easy error to make, I used to do it all the time :o

Anyway, don't use hollow, build ALL walls yourself, and make sure they TOUCH, not go through each other :D

Nice maps. :)

The biggest room I've made is about 2 meters high and 3 meters in width... with some Assassins in the middle. I added a Big Momma too, but that wasn't so good.

I did a fire fight between some Barneys and plenty of Marines, the Barneys died quick and the grunts killed themselves with hand grenades. :P

Creating your world in a hollowed-out box ain't a good thing to do, as it will force the HL-engine to.. erh.. I don't recall what, but it's not good. One thing in this is that you make a polygon too big for the eninge, and this ain't good ;)

I can remember how I struggled with my maps for ages! They just wouldn't work, I had the compiler skipping RAD, just like it did to you!
The main reason to this was that I made all the outer walls to [func_wall]-entities :D

No, I had absolutely no idea :p but nowadays I'm a fullfeathered(if that's a word, I'm swedish ;)) mapper!

If you surround your map with one big hollow box it forces it to calculate everything, even those area's you'd never see, result = probably wont compile atall, and if it did, it would be very unoptimised.

I only knew how to change the playerskins, the .wad skins, so I made all the CS skins red so they were easy to locate...

Yep, Always build a skybox that changes with your map :)

You know what, once I've sorted my 3d view problem, I'll get a few Opposing Force single player maps up :)
