Looking Back at BF2

FH2 is so much fun, it's a shame that the initial release had a bugged server file that caused the game to crash.
They're coming out with an update soon so hopefully that will bring life to the mod.

If FH2 is the same thing I'm thinking it was, then I hated it, because if you get in a tank, infantry is essentially useless.

I first played BF42 on a Radeon 7500. It was on the "Tobruk" map demo for the game before it went retail. BF42 & DC have a special place in my heart. I spent years playing both on my 56k. I enjoyed BF:V, though not as much as I did BF42 & I didn't care much for BF:2142.

However,

I $#%&! LOATH BF2. :flame:

Poor weapon damage + Poor Weapon Accuracy = FAIL.

I only played as a Medic & that gun you unlock sucked so bad, that I refused to use it & so I used the pistol or paddles instead. The game play & maps were great, but the weapon damage & accuracy, killed the game for me.

It takes a special kind of talent to aim with the weapons in BF2. Takes a lot of practice to get it all down.

I've played it a little and it took freaking foverever to load, add lag aswell. At one point I toyed around and fixed the video settings. I can't now and any game I play I can only play one and a half rounds (my PC is ****ed), can't wait till I get a new PC and play it.

It's got alot of potential though, and I hope it can get back to how the original Forgotten Hope was IMO.

I'm hoping FH2 gets back to how the original was, especially the infantry combat.

If and when they make another Battlefield game, I really hope they actually have blood in it with blood decals (**** the ratings). Unlocked weapons that customize (like COD4's), also less arcadey and a little bit more realistic in terms of combat with weapons/vehicles.

Also less bugs.

They went in the right direction with 2142. Better balance, slower (more realistic) movement.

Though I'd like to see BF3 in a modern setting.

No, I'm sorry but they did not go in the right direction with 2142 because that game was nothing more than a mod. It still had the inherent flaws from the previous games because they didn't even bother to change anything. The game still has that laggy feeling regardless of ping and pc specs. It's like you're on rollerskates in an ice rink. The server browser still has the same problem. The weapons feel like super soakers and inaccurate; you could be shooting a guy at point blank range, see the target twitch and the puffs of "smoke" but they're still standing.

If they ever make another BF game, it better have a new engine and it better be something licensed because Dice proved that they're incapable of fixing their problems.

Frostbite engine for Bad Company was really damn nice. I'd like to see it used for a new Battlefield game for the PC.

I wish they would at least announce a BF3 in the works or something like it so we have something to look forward to!

I played BF2 a day or two ago. It was still fun :D

A new patch is coming soon for it.

I also wish they would announce a sequel.

It needs to come sooner D:

As does a BF3 announcement!

It's quite fun. I'd play more but I ****ing hate punkbuster.

Definitely not the best MP game. That goes to WoW or TFC.

I have started playing again :D

Same. Sort of. Been playing for the last two days. Just vanilla BF2 on a German server doing a full 64-player map rotation, cause I can't be bothered to install mods and 'learn' the new maps. But still it's hella fun. If anyone once to join me (that means you, dude) you'll find me on Steam.

I've recently been playing as well; got my friend into the game (he was a 2142 player). Whined a bit about the obvious jet/chopper raping etc. at first (aircrafts are not overpowered in 2142), but now he's into it.

I play on about 32-player servers, can't stand the spamfest when there's 64 people playing. And the nametags cover half my screen sometimes. So nothing's changed.

You'll find me on X-Fire.

how populated is this game? i've been thinking about reinstalling it.

I've been recently playing as well. And it's surprisingly popular. There are always 100+ servers with 25 or more players in them.

Yeah, it's easy to find a server with plenty people playing. BF2 is far from dead.

Damn not many people playing Quake Wars at all, shame that it bombed like it did... I had tons of fun with the demo.

Also, BF2142 kicks ass... can't wait to start playing again when I get my computer up.

Just played BF2 on my new computer, I forgot how much the infantry combat sucked and how the lil n00bs ruin the experience (i.e. the player is just sprinting around and an opposing player on the other team goes prone for automatic accuracy).

I'm also hoping if they ever make a another Battlefield GAEM for the PC, I hope they learn(ed) some tips from Valve. ;)

I have a real hard time finding a server that's not infantry only, with the jet maps, with people in it.
